NEBL Round 12: Tigersharks edge Defenders by three points - Apr 22, 2018

There will be only one (last) round of the Regular Season in NEBL. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

Third-ranked Defenders (6-4) made lots of trouble for first ranked Tigersharks (10-2) in San Pedro on Saturday. Tigersharks managed to secure only three-point victory 71-68. However their fans expected easier game. Tigersharks outrebounded Defenders 63-32 including a 28-11 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was center Martevuius Adams who had a double-double by scoring 31 points and 23 rebounds. American guard Jihad Wright (193, college: UNC Pembroke) chipped in 18 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was American forward Nigel Jones (201-90, college: Talladega) who recorded a double-double by scoring 14 points, 12 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Tigersharks maintains first position with 10-2 record. Newly promoted Defenders dropped to the fourth place with four games lost. Tigersharks are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Running Rebels (#7) in Belize City in the next round where they are favorite. Defenders will have a break next round.
Fifth ranked Verdes (4-6) saved a 1-point victory at home edging 7th ranked Running Rebels (1-10) 82-81 on Saturday evening. It was a good game for the former international forward Richard Troyer (196-84, college: Utah Valley) who saved his team from a defeat with a double-double by scoring 29 points and 11 rebounds. Gene Myvett contributed with 12 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Verdes' coach used entire bench in such tough game. Forward Roger Reneau replied with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 15 rebounds and 6 assists for Running Rebels. Newly promoted Verdes maintains fifth position with 4-6 record. Running Rebels at the other side stay at the bottom place with ten games lost. Verdes will play against Red Bandits (#6) in Belmopan in the next round. Running Rebels will play at home against the league's leader Tigersharks to get more than just one victory in their record.
The game with biggest result difference took place in Belize City. Local Hurricanes (6-3) outscored 6th ranked Red Bandits (2-9) 107-80 on Friday night. Worth to mention a quality performance of Glency Lopez who helped to win the game recording 19 points and 5 assists. The best for the losing side was Stephen Williams with 25 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Hurricanes have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to third place. Red Bandits lost seventh consecutive game. Defending champion keep the sixth position with nine games lost. Hurricanes will meet league's second-placed Dream Ballers in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Red Bandits will play against Verdes (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.



Verdes - Orange Walk RR 82-81

Fifth ranked Verdes (4-6) saved a 1-point victory at home edging 7th ranked Running Rebels (1-10) 82-81 on Saturday evening. Verdes forced 24 Running Rebels turnovers. It was a good game for the former international forward Richard Troyer (196-84, college: Utah Valley) who saved his team from a defeat with a double-double by scoring 29 points and 11 rebounds. The former international forward Gene Myvett (193-82, college: CS Los Angeles) contributed with 12 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Verdes' coach used entire bench in such tough game. Forward Roger Reneau replied with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 15 rebounds and 6 assists and forward Vince Young (188, college: Lehman) added 30 points in the effort for Running Rebels. Verdes will play against Red Bandits (#6) in Belmopan in the next round. Running Rebels will play at home against the league's leader Tigersharks to get more than just one victory in their record.

Hurricanes dominated down low during the game scoring 76 of its points in the paint compared to Red Bandits' 40. Hurricanes forced 23 Red Bandits turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. Worth to mention a quality performance of international point guard Glency Lopez who helped to win the game recording 19 points and 5 assists and American center Tyson Reynold (205-92, college: Life) who added 8 points and 8 rebounds during the contest. The best for the losing side was the former international forward Stephen Williams (188-83) with 25 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists and American forward Luther Page (198, college: Alabama St.) produced a double-double by scoring 17 points and 11 rebounds. KRIS FRAZIER American Kris Frazier (201-PG) had an amazing evening in the last round for league's leader Verdes and that's him to receive a Interperformances Player of the Week award for round 11. Here is the last round review presented by ESL. The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Belize City: Hurricanes (#4) and Running Rebels (#7). Running Rebels were crushed at home by 16 points 72-88 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. Hurricanes outrebounded Running Rebels 35-21 including 24 on the defensive glass.
