The Regular Season in NEBL just started. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

Tigersharks smashed Running Rebels in San Pedro 86-58. Tigersharks forced 24 Running Rebels turnovers and outrebounded them 43-30 including 30 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Running Rebels' players. 24 personal fouls committed by Running Rebels helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of forward Louis Pitterson who helped to win the game recording 17 points and 8 rebounds. point guard Francis Arana (-97) contributed with 8 points, 11 assists and 5 steals for the winners. JaKeem Yates answered with 21 points and 9 rebounds for Running Rebels. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Running Rebels will play next round against Defenders trying to get back on the winning streak. It will be a derby game for which supporters look forward to, where their team will travel locally in Belize City to the arena of Defenders. Tigersharks will try to continue on its current victory against Hurricanes in Belize City.

A very close game took place in Belize City between Red Bandits and Defenders. Red Bandits (1-0) got a very close victory on the road over Defenders (0-2). Red Bandits managed to escape with a 2-point win 68-66 on Friday evening. Jevonte Hughes nailed a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds for the winning side. Nigel Jones came up with 13 points and 4 assists for Defenders in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Red Bandits will meet at home Dream Ballers (#4) in the next round. Defenders' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Belize City Running Rebels.

Ashton Edwards fired 25 points for the winners. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Tigersharks' next round opponent will be Hurricanes (#3) in Belize City, which may be the game of the day. Running Rebels' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Belize City to the arena Defenders.

It was a very good performance for Daniel Conorque who helped to win the game recording 20 points. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Dream Ballers will face Red Bandits in Belmopan in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.

In the last game of round 1 winless Belize City D. were beaten by Verdes on the road 96-89.



Smart Belize H. - Dream Ballers 69-62

Verdes used a home court advantage and beat the opponent from Belize City 96-89 on Saturday night. Verdes forced 20 Defenders turnovers and outrebounded them 60-43 including 23 on the offensive glass. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Verdes made 7 blocks. Defenders were plagued by 35 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a very good performance for American point guard Kris Frazier (201, college: Peru St.) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 27 points, 14 rebounds and 4 blocks. The former international center Elsworth Itza contributed with a double-double by scoring 12 points, 17 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Five Verdes players scored in double figures. American center Nigel Jones (201-90, college: Talladega) answered with 27 points and 9 rebounds and the former international guard Ty Bradley (183-85) added 6 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists and 6 steals in the effort for Defenders. DANIEL CONORQUE International Guard Daniel Conorque (193-G-91) had a great game in the last round for top-ranked Dream Ballers, receiving a Interperformances Player of the Week award for round 4. The 27-year old player had a double-double of 21 points and 14 rebounds, while his team beat San Pedro T. (#2, 3-2) 79-66. The game was between two of the league's top four teams.
