The National Elite Basketball League (NEBL) will tip off its best-of-five finals this weekend. It is the first time in league history that the 2 lower seeds both advanced to the finals. With the loss, home teams are 0 - 6 this year in the playoffs where no home team has secured a win in front of their fans as yet.

Hurricanes blew away Verdes in game 3 to advance to third finals
On Friday night Mirage/Smart Belize Hurricanes travelled out west to take on the #1 seed, Verdes, in a do-or-die game 3 that would decide which team advances to the finals. Games 1 and 2 were decided by game winning three point shots, which prepared the table for a great showing in game 3. The visiting squad attacked first, jumping out to an early 20 - 6 lead, but Verdes was able to cut the deficit to 2 points early in the second quarter. However, by intermission the lead ballooned back to 17 points, 46 - 29. In the second half Verdes was unable to muster a run to narrow the gap to single digit points, allowing the defending champions, Mirage/Smart Belize Hurricanes to cruise to an easy 79 - 66 victory in front of a packed auditorium. With the win Mirage/Smart Belize Hurricanes is the first team to advance to the finals, awaiting the winner from the Griga Dream Ballers and San Pedro Tiger Sharks game on Saturday night. This is Hurricanes third trip to the finals, where they have never lost, winning both times they arrived at the big dance.
