The 2016/17 Bermuda Island Basketball League season tipped off inside the Cedarbridge Gymnasium with a double header that produced 170 points. The opening points of the season were scored by Steven Simons (82) of the Tsunami's who are a new team to the League, they recorded a 46 - 33 win over the Rimrockers. Johnny Lugo and Dean Jones scored 10 points each in the win, while Dave Middleton scored 8 points for the Rimrockers. Game Two featured another new team, but they did not start the season with a win, the Island Ballers went down to Twisters 53 - 38, Girki Clark was the top scorer for the Twisters with 16 points, while the Island Ballers were led by Rajiz Mallory with 8 points.

Bermudian Caelin Peters hit a career high after scoring 37 points in Plymouth Whitemarsh Colonials' defeat to Malvern Preparatory School in the John Salmons Play by Play Classic showcase game on Saturday at the Plymouth Whitemarsh High School in Pennsylvania. The Bermuda Under-19 basketball team just missed out on a place on the podium after finishing fourth at this week's Heartlake Winter Classic in Brampton, Ontario, Canada. The Bermuda Basketball Association's Under-19 team are targeting an improved performance in their second appearance in the Heartlake Winter Classic in Brampton, Ontario, Canada.
