The Bermuda Under 19 National Basketball team fell in the second and final warm up match in preparation of the Heart Lake Winter Classic Basketball tournament in Brampton, Ontario. Bermuda took on the host Heart Lake Secondary going down 75 - 45, Heart Lake were a better team in terms of their organization, structure and athleticism and as expected, they applied full court pressure. Heart Lake is currently coached by Paul Notice, who is a former teacher at CedarBridge Academy from 2004-2006.The Bermuda guards did a good job anticipating the press, but numerous times they would turn the ball over after getting into the front court, Bermuda was also hampered by silly fouls from starters forcing Coach Tacklyn to make early substitutions and this disrupted the flow of the game. Some Bermuda players were forced into roles they were not used to playing in. This led to a disappointing 30-19 first half score. The frustrating part of the first half was that Bermuda was getting quality shots in the first half, but could not make them. This continued in the 3rd quarter as Heart Lake would expand their lead in a 27-11 quarter, fatigue may have played a part in the score. Heart Lake's full court pressure forced more turnovers which resulted in easy points. Team captain, Jorel Smith was the standout for the team in the second half as he continuously attacked the rim. He scored 11 of his 22 points in the 3rd quarter after having to sit much of the first half with foul trouble. The fourth quarter was much of the same and Coach Tacklyn would empty his bench halfway through, in order to rest his starters for the tournament.
