Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

The most important game in the last round took place in Cochabamba between third ranked Amistad (2-2) and fifth ranked La Salle CBBA (2-3) on Saturday night. Amistad was defeated by La Salle CBBA on the road 71-58. La Salle CBBA dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Amistad's 26. Uruguayan forward Miguel Barriola (191-90) scored 22 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the charge for the winners and American forward Joe Efese (198, college: Cent.Conn.St.) chipped in 18 points and 13 rebounds during the contest. The best for the losing side was Nigerian-American guard George Williams (198-90, college: Wayland Baptist) with 16 points and 9 rebounds. La Salle CBBA moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Penarol. Amistad at the other side keeps the third position with two games lost. They share it with Carl A-Z.
Very important is a road loss of second ranked Pichincha (3-3) against sixth ranked Univ. Santa Cruz (1-5) on Friday night. Visiting Pichincha was defeated by Univ. Santa Cruz in a tough game on the road 74-78. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Pichincha. Spanish-American forward Duane James (196-83, college: Binghamton) notched 28 points and 7 rebounds to lead the effort and Wendell Lewis supported him with 15 points and 6 rebounds. Univ. Santa Cruz's coach Mario Veramendi allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Even 27 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field) by American forward Trevante Drye (199-93, college: Tulane) did not help to save the game for Pichincha. Newly promoted Univ. Santa Cruz maintains sixth position with 1-5 record. Pichincha at the other side keeps the second place with three games lost. They share the position with Rubair.

The best player for the winners was Michael Flores who scored 38 points (!!!). La Salle Tarija's coach Henry Paruta used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was Milos Petkovic who recorded a double-double by scoring 31 points and 14 rebounds. Undefeated La Salle Tarija have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 5-0 record. Loser Penarol dropped to the fourth place with three games lost. They share the position with La Salle CBBA.
The game between Top Four teams took place in Oruro. 4th ranked host Carl A-Z (2-2) lost to top-ranked Calero (4-0) 116-106. It was a good game for Mike Liabo who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 30 points and 11 rebounds. Calero's coach Giovanny Vargas used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. Calero have a solid four-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 4-0 record. Carl A-Z at the other side dropped to the third place with two games lost.
The game in La Paz was also quite interesting. Fourth ranked Rubair (3-3) played at the court of 5th ranked AND1 La Paz (1-2). Rubair managed to secure a 6-point victory 93-87 on Friday. Gregory Curvelo scored 32 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals to lead the charge for the winners. Both coaches used bench players saving starting five for next games. Rubair moved-up to second place, which they share with Pichincha. Loser AND1 La Paz keeps the fifth position with two games lost.



La Salle CBBA - Amistad 71-58

Very important is a road loss of second ranked Pichincha (3-3) against sixth ranked Univ. Santa Cruz (1-5) on Friday night. Visiting Pichincha was defeated by Univ. Santa Cruz in a tough game on the road 74-78. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Pichincha. Univ. Santa Cruz forced 24 Pichincha turnovers. The game between Top Four teams took place in Quillacollo. 3rd ranked host Penarol (2-3) lost to top-ranked La Salle Tarija (5-0) 105-91. La Salle Tarija had a 36-22 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was Venezuelan guard Michael Flores (192-85) who scored 38 points (!!!). American forward Scott Sill (206-92, college: Delaware St.) chipped in a double-double by scoring 21 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists. The game in La Paz was also quite interesting. Fourth ranked Rubair (3-3) played at the court of 5th ranked AND1 La Paz (1-2). Rubair managed to secure a 6-point victory 93-87 on Friday. Rubair forced 24 AND1 La Paz turnovers. Strangely AND1 La Paz outrebounded Rubair 49-36 including 19 on the offensive glass. Venezuelan guard Gregory Curvelo (190-90) scored 32 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals to lead the charge for the winners and Venezuelan guard Reimer Machado (185-89) chipped in 19 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists during the contest. Four Rubair players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was Cuban power forward Daniel Nembhard (204-91) with a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!), 15 rebounds and 4 blocks and Dariel Maza produced a double-double by scoring 10 points and 14 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players saving starting five for next games. Rubair moved-up to second place, which they share with Pichincha. Loser AND1 La Paz keeps the fifth position with two games lost.

Calero dominated down low during the game scoring 70 of its points in the paint compared to Carl A-Z's 46. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. It was a good game for American swingman Mike Liabo (198-91, college: Tenn-Martin, agency: Interperformances) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 30 points and 11 rebounds. The former international forward Cristhian Camargo (194-92) contributed with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. Liabo is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. Calero's coach Giovanny Vargas used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. American guard Scheraun King (196-87, college: Albany St.) replied with 35 points (!!!) and 5 assists and his fellow American import forward Khapri Alston (196, college: Midwestern St.) added 28 points and 10 rebounds in the effort for Carl A-Z. Five Calero and four Carl A-Z players scored in double figures. Calero have a solid four-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 4-0 record. Carl A-Z at the other side dropped to the third place with two games lost.
