Libobasquet Round 11: Pichincha loses to Penarol - Aug 7, 2018

Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

The game between second ranked Pichincha (5-6) and fourth ranked Penarol (4-6) was the most important one in the last round on Monday night. Pichincha was defeated by Penarol in Quillacollo 74-86. Penarol outrebounded Pichincha 44-29 including a 31-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. Serbian power forward Milos Petkovic (204-91) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 13 rebounds (on 11-of-12 shooting from the field). Mauro Calbimonte (-97) contributed with 25 points and 4 assists for the winners. American guard Warren Jones (190-94, college: Green Bay) answered with 20 points and 6 assists for Pichincha. Penarol maintains fourth place with 4-6 record. Pichincha at the other side dropped to the third position with six games lost.
Libobasque top team - La Salle Tarija (10-1) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed sixth ranked AND1 La Paz (1-9) 108-79. It was a great evening for Venezuelan guard Michael Flores (192-85) who led his team to a victory scoring 32 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists. Scott Sill helped adding 25 points, 16 rebounds and 4 assists. La Salle Tarija's coach Henry Paruta felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Cuban power forward Daniel Nembhard (204-91) responded with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 18 rebounds. La Salle Tarija have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain first place with 10-1 record. AND1 La Paz lost ninth consecutive game. They keep the sixth position with nine games lost.
The game in was also quite interesting. Third ranked Rubair (6-5) played at the court of 5th ranked Univ. Santa Cruz (3-8). Rubair managed to secure a 9-point victory 96-87 on Monday. It was an exceptional evening for Gregory Curvelo who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 45 points (!!!) and 14 rebounds. Rubair's coach Jorge Montes used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Duane James came up with 30 points and 9 rebounds for Univ. Santa Cruz in the defeat. Rubair moved-up to second place. Univ. Santa Cruz at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keeps the fifth position with eight games lost.

In the last game of round 11 Amistad was beaten by Carl A-Z on the road 80-76.
The most impressive performance of 11th round was 23 points and 10 rebounds by Tirrell Brown of Amistad.



Univ. Santa Cruz - Rubair 87-96

The game in was also quite interesting. Third ranked Rubair (6-5) played at the court of 5th ranked Univ. Santa Cruz (3-8). Rubair managed to secure a 9-point victory 96-87 on Monday. Rubair shot 24 for 39 from the free-throw line, while Univ. Santa Cruz only scored eight points from the stripe. It was an exceptional evening for Venezuelan guard Gregory Curvelo (190-90) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 45 points (!!!) and 14 rebounds. Venezuelan guard Reimer Machado (185-89) accounted for 23 points and 10 rebounds for the winning side. Rubair's coach Jorge Montes used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Spanish-American forward Duane James (196-83, college: Binghamton) came up with 30 points and 9 rebounds and Oscar Barrancos (-98) added 20 points respectively for Univ. Santa Cruz in the defeat. Rubair moved-up to second place. Univ. Santa Cruz at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keeps the fifth position with eight games lost.

Libobasque top team - La Salle Tarija (10-1) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed sixth ranked AND1 La Paz (1-9) 108-79. La Salle Tarija dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to AND1 La Paz's 44. They outrebounded AND1 La Paz 57-36 including a 23-12 advantage in offensive rebounds. La Salle Tarija players were unselfish on offense dishing 25 assists. It was a great evening for Venezuelan guard Michael Flores (192-85) who led his team to a victory scoring 32 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists. American forward Scott Sill (206-92, college: Delaware St.) helped adding 25 points, 16 rebounds and 4 assists. Everything could happen in Oruro at the game between two tied teams. Both fourth ranked Carl A-Z and 5th ranked Amistad had identical 4-4 record. This time Carl A-Z used a home court advantage and beat the opponent from Sucre 80-76 on Monday night. It was an exceptional evening for American guard Scheraun King (196-87, college: Albany St.) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 10 rebounds. Rodrigo Fernandez accounted for 22 points and 6 rebounds for the winning side. American forward Tirrell Brown (198-93, college: Ouachita Baptist) came up with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 10 rebounds and the other American import forward Luther Page (201-93, college: Alabama St.) added 24 points (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) respectively for Amistad in the defeat. Carl A-Z (5-4) moved-up to third place. Loser Amistad keeps the fifth position with five games lost.

LOUIS MUNKS Osorno Basquetbol (Liga Nacional) landed 27-year old American guard Louis Munks (190-91kg-90, college: Prairie View A&M, agency: Interperformances). He played in the summer at Calero in Bolivian Libobasquet. Munks managed to play in three leagues in two countries last year (!!!).
