Libobasquet Round 13: CAN Oruro is upset by Vikingos - Aug 21, 2018

Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

The game between second ranked CAN Oruro (7-4) and sixth ranked Vikingos (3-8) was the most important one in the last round on Friday night. CAN Oruro was defeated by Vikingos in a tough game in Tarija 91-96. Venezuelan swingman Elvis Baez (191-89) fired 18 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists for the winners. American guard Prince Samuels (190, college: Gloucester CC) chipped in 25 points. American power forward Howard Crawford (205-88, college: UAB) produced 22 points and 9 rebounds for lost side. Vikingos maintains sixth place with 3-8 record. CAN Oruro at the other side keeps the second position with four games lost. They share it with La Salle CBBA.
An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Cochabamba. Third ranked La Salle CBBA faced their biggest opponent CAN Oruro. Host La Salle CBBA (7-4) defeated guests from Oruro (7-4) 91-85. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Joe Efese (198-90, college: Cent.Conn.St.) who helped to win the game recording 24 points and 5 rebounds. Miguel Barriola contributed with 20 points for the winners. La Salle CBBA's coach Luis Campuzano allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. International Pedro Gutierrez (182-96) answered with 24 points for CAN Oruro. La Salle CBBA have a solid series of four victories in a row. They moved-up to second place, which they share with defeated CAN Oruro.
An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Tarija. First ranked La Salle Tarija faced 4th placed Penarol. Host La Salle Tarija (11-1) smashed guests from Quillacollo (4-7) 108-78. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Penarol. Scott Sill stepped up with a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!), 18 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. La Salle Tarija's coach Henry Paruta felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side Milos Petkovic responded with 17 points and 9 rebounds. La Salle Tarija have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain first place with 11-1 record. Loser Penarol keeps the fourth position with seven games lost.
An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Potosi. First ranked Calero faced 4th placed Carl A-Z. Host Calero (9-1) defeated guests from Oruro (5-6) 92-85. The game was dominated by American players. Louis Munks nailed a double-double by scoring 27 points and 13 rebounds for the winning side. Calero's coach Giovanny Vargas used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. Calero have a solid series of four victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 9-1 record. Carl A-Z at the other side keeps the fourth position with six games lost.
The game in Sucre was also quite interesting. Third ranked La Salle CBBA (7-4) played at the court of 5th ranked Amistad (4-6). La Salle CBBA did not have too big problems and got a relatively easy victory 88-71 on Saturday. Miguel Barriola fired a double-double by scoring 32 points, 14 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. La Salle CBBA have a solid series of four victories in a row. They moved-up to second place, which they share with CAN Oruro. Amistad lost third consecutive game. They keep the fifth position with six games lost.

In the last game of round 13 Univ. Santa Cruz was crushed by Pichincha in a road game 113-42.
The best stats of 13th round was 21 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists by Luis Choque of Pichincha.



Pichincha - Univ. Santa Cruz 113-42

There was no surprise when 5th ranked Univ. Santa Cruz (3-9) was crushed on the road by third ranked Pichincha (6-6) 113-42 on Monday. Pichincha dominated down low during the game scoring 74 of its points in the paint compared to Univ. Santa Cruz's 16. They outrebounded Univ. Santa Cruz 53-26 including a 16-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. Pichincha looked well-organized offensively handing out 35 assists comparing to just 5 passes made by Univ. Santa Cruz's players. International forward Luis Choque (196-97) fired 21 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. Guard Jose Choque (-98) chipped in 20 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Four Pichincha players scored in double figures. Coach Cristiano Grama's team controlled all game and the coach could let to play 10 players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. American swingman Ben Merritt (201-92, college: Urbana) produced 12 points and 7 rebounds and guard Diego Burgos (-93) added 9 points and 6 rebounds respectively for lost side. Pichincha maintains third place with 6-6 record behind leader Calero. Univ. Santa Cruz lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the fifth position with nine games lost.

Amistad - La Salle CBBA 71-88
