Pinheiros are champions of the Interligas LDB 2026, beating Argentina's La Union Formosa 88-72 in Sunday's final at the SESI Vila Leopoldina gymnasium in Sao Paulo. The Brazilian club found early resistance from a traditional Argentine program that had finished third in the last edition of Argentina's own development league, but Pinheiros settled into the game and eventually pulled clear.
The final was tight through the first half, with both sides playing at a high technical level, before Pinheiros took over in the third and fourth quarters tightening its defense, pushing the tempo in transition and building a double-digit lead it never relinquished. Brayan posted a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds for the champions, crediting the team's preparation and in-game adjustments after briefly losing their footing before halftime. La Union's Thiago Gronda (2004) led all scorers with 20 points and spoke afterward about the value of the experience despite the loss, praising Pinheiros as a formidable opponent. The tournament's standout performer was 18-year-old point guard Lucca Boracina (186-G-2007), named MVP of the Interligas LDB after leading scoring in every game of the competition, averaging 17.6 points per contest, and closing out the final with 21 points, four rebounds and four assists. Boracina pointed to sustained team preparation as the foundation of the title, noting it took the squad a game or two to find their rhythm before things clicked into place. In the third-place game, Ferro Carril edged Sesi Franca 79-77 in the final seconds, with Sesi Franca's Vini Santos narrowly missing a potential game-tying tip-in at the buzzer; La Union Formosa finished fourth overall. |
