Connecticut Sun agreed terms with 31-year old Brazilian international swingman Iziane Castro Marques (182-71kg-82, agency: Josep and Nicolas). She just played at Maranhao in Brazilian LBF league. In 9 games she was the best scorer with impressive 20.8ppg and averaged 6.7rpg, 2.1apg and 1.3spg this season. Castro Marques' team made it to the LBF Semifinals. She was voted Latinbasket.com All-Brazilian LBF 1st Team in 2012 and 2013.
Castro Marques was also a member of Brazilian international program for some years. She played for Brazilian Senior National Team between 2001 and 2012 and previously for U20 National Team back in 2000. Castro Marques also represented Brazil at the Panamerican Games in Guadalajara (Mexico) two years ago. Her team won Bronze and her stats at that event were 5 games: Score-3 (17.4ppg), 3.8rpg, 1.4apg, FGP: 42.4%, 3PT: 37.5%, FT: 70.4%.
Castro Marques is quite experienced player. She has played also professionally in France (Villeneuve D'Ascq), Latvia, Poland (Wisla Can-Pak), Russia (Spartak Vidnoye), Spain (Extrugasa), Turkey (Besiktas), WNBA (Washington Mystics, Seattle Storm and Atlanta Dream) and Brazil (Ourinhos).
On Castro Marques: 'Izi' is very quick and has a great first step. She can create her own shot and can score from all over the court. She also is a team player who possesses a great attitude.
