Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

The game had a very big importance for third-ranked Pinheiros as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Pinheiros defeated 8th ranked Minas in Sao Paulo 87-75. 28 personal fouls committed by Minas helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of power forward Renato Carbonari (206-87) who helped to win the game recording 15 points and 9 rebounds. The former international forward Marcus-Vinicius Toledo (201-86) contributed with 17 points and 7 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) for the winners. The former international guard Leandro Barbosa (190-82) replied with 22 points and 6 assists for Minas. Minas' coach Espiga Soares rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Pinheiros (12-3) have an impressive five-game winning streak. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. Minas at the other side dropped to the ninth place with nine games lost. They share the position with Sao Jose. Minas will play next round against Joinville trying to get back on the winning streak. Pinheiros will try to continue on its current victory against eighth ranked Corinthians. It will be extra interesting game as Corinthians is their local rival from Sao Paulo.
An interesting game for Pinheiros (12-3) which hosted in Sao Paulo one of their biggest challengers Flamengo (11-4). Third ranked Pinheiros managed to get a 8-point victory 81-73. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Flamengo. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international Betinho Nardi-Duarte (195-88) who helped to win the game recording 24 points and Marcus-Vinicius Toledo who added 8 points and 9 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side Argentinian point guard Franco Balbi (185-89) responded with 16 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists. Pinheiros have an impressive five-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader. Flamengo at the other side keeps the fourth place with four games lost. They share the position with Mogi. Pinheiros' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Sao Paulo to the arena Corinthians.

The winners were led by Marquinhos Vieira who scored that evening 22 points and 4 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Flamengo have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain fourth position with 11-4 record, which they share with Mogi. Loser Corinthians dropped to the eighth place with nine games lost. Flamengo will meet at home Sao Jose (#10) in the next round where they are favorite. Corinthians' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Sao Paulo Pinheiros.
The game between 14th ranked Brasilia (3-11) and third ranked Paulistano (12-4) in Brasilia ended with biggest points difference. Guests from Sao Paulo outscored Brasilia 97-71. Leonardo Meindl fired 13 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Paulistano's coach Regis Marrelli felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Paulistano have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place. Brasilia lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team stay at the bottom position with 11 games lost. Paulistano will have a break next round. Brasilia will play at home against Mogi (#5) and hope to win that game.

Other games in round 16 were not that significant. Bauru beat Botafogo F.R. on the road 80-74. Franca won against B.Cearense on its own court 82-74. Vasco Da G. managed to outperform Joinville in Rio de Janeiro 92-81. Bauru managed to beat B.Cearense at home 82-71. Mogi defeated Joinville on the opponent's court 90-84.
The most impressive performance of 16th round was 35 points (!!!) and 11 rebounds by Joao-Paulo Batista of Mogi.



Pinheiros - Minas 87-75
