JOAO PAULO BATISTA

37-year old Joao Paulo Batista (205-C/F-81) had an amazing evening in the last round for second-ranked Mogi and receives a Interperformances Player of the Week award for round 16.
He had a double-double of 35 points and 11 rebounds, while his team beat Joinville (#13, 4-10) 90-84. Mogi is placed at 2nd position in Brazilian league. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Mogi will need more victories to improve their 12-4 record. Batista turned to be Mogi's top player in his first season with the team. Gonzaga University graduate has very impressive stats this year. Batista is in league's top in points (3rd best: 19.3ppg) and averages solid 60.8% FGP.

Second best performed player last round was Ahmad Starks (175-PG-92, agency: SDJ Sports) of Joinville. He is American guard in his first season at Joinville. In the last game Starks recorded impressive 34 points and 5 rebounds. Bad luck as Joinville lost that game 84-90 to the higher-ranked Mogi (#2, 12-4). This loss caused Joinville to drop to 13th position in the standings. 10 lost games are too many comparing to just four victories Joinville managed to get this year. Starks is a newcomer at Joinville and quickly became one of team's most reliable players.

Third place about best performers goes to forward Marcus Vinicius Toledo (201-F-86) of league's leader Pinheiros. Toledo scored 17 points and grabbed seven rebounds. He was a key player of Pinheiros, leading his team to a 87-75 win against the lower-ranked Minas (#9, 5-9). Pinheiros confirms their top position in the standings. Toledo has a very solid season. In 15 games in Brazil he scored 7.9ppg. He also has 6.3rpg, 2.1spg and FGP: 50.5%. Marcus Vinicius Toledo has also Brazilian passport and can play in the league with a status of domestic player.
