Franco Balbi
FRANCO BALBI

Argentinian Point guard Franco Balbi (185-PG-89) had a very impressive game in the last round for second-ranked Flamengo, receiving a Interperformances Player of the Week award for round 20.
The 29-year old player was the main contributor (16 points, three rebounds and six assists) to his team's victory, helping them to beat Franca (#3, 14-3) 79-74. The game was between two of the league's top four teams. Flamengo maintains the 2nd position in Brazilian NBB. They are still close to the very top. Flamengo would have been even better if they kept winning the games like in the last round. They have a solid 16-4 record. In the team's last game Balbi had a remarkable 71.4% from 2-point range. It was one of impressive evenings for him as usually he does not deliver so high stats. Franco Balbi has solid league stats. He is in league's top in assists (5th best: 6.0apg).

The second best player in last round's games was 36-year old former international guard Eduardo Machado (193-G-82) of Vasco Da G.. Machado had a very good evening with 22 points and 6 rebounds. Bad luck as Vasco Da G. lost that game 81-92 to the higher-ranked Minas (#6, 8-11). Vasco Da G. is still second from the bottom in the standings. 13 lost games are too many comparing to just five victories Vasco Da G. managed to get this year. Machado is a newcomer at Vasco Da G., but is already one of team's top players.

Third on the list of top players last round was former international guard Welington Dos Santos (185-PG-81) of Brasilia (#13). Dos Santos scored 19 points and passed seven assists. Despite Dos Santos' great performance Brasilia lost 80-87 to slightly higher-ranked B.Cearense (#11, 7-14). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. Brasilia can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have rather bad season and 5-13 record places them close to the bottom of the standings. Too bad for Dos Santos he does not play for a better team. But maybe if he did, his season stats would not be that high. Dos Santos has a very solid season. In 18 games in Brazil he scored 11.7ppg.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Cordero Bennett (188-G-88) of Pinheiros - 17 points, 2 rebounds and 4 assists
5. Leandro Barbosa (190-G-82) of Minas - 21 points and 3 rebounds
6. Dontrell Brite (175-PG-94) of B.Cearense - 20 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists
7. David Jackson (195-SG-82) of Franca - 17 points and 5 rebounds
8. Windi Graterol (204-C-86) of Brasilia - 12 points and 11 rebounds
9. Olivinha Rodriguez (203-F-83) of Flamengo - 14 points and 7 rebounds
10. Felipe Ribeiro (201-F-79) of B.Cearense - 11 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists

The Player of the week is selected based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
