CBC League Round 7: Joinville hand first loss to Ponta Grossa

Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of Ponta Grossa (4-1) at the home court on Friday night. Hosts were defeated by fourth ranked Joinville (3-2) 84-72. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Ponta Grossa. Joinville looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of guard Willian Moreira (190-92) who helped to win the game recording 24 points and 5 rebounds. point guard Patrick Vieira (186-93) contributed with 13 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Power forward Dida Pereira (202-92, college: Sequoias CC) answered with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds for Ponta Grossa. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Joinville moved-up to third place. Ponta Grossa at the other side still keeps top position with one game lost. They share it with Corinthians. Joinville are looking forward to face league's second-placed Corinthians in Santa Cruz do Sul in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Ponta Grossa will play against Maringa and is hoping to win this game.
An interesting game for Corinthians (4-1) which hosted in Santa Cruz do Sul 3rd placed Brusque (2-3). Second ranked Corinthians managed to get a 9-point victory 87-78. It was a great evening for center Ralfi Ansaloni (211-87) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds. Enzo Cafferata helped adding 20 points (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field). At the losing side center Rodrigo Silva (207-87) responded with 21 points and 8 rebounds (made all of his seven free throws). Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Corinthians have a solid series of three victories in a row. They used an opportunity after Ponta Grossa lost their game and moved up joining them at the top position. Brusque at the other side dropped to the fourth place with three games lost. Corinthians will play against Joinville (#3) on the road in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Brusque will play against Londrina and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Londrina - Maringa 86-60

Londrina's fans can finally celebrate the first win of their team after four consecutive losses. They used home court advantage to defeat Maringa (1-4) 86-60 on Friday. It was an exceptional evening for guard Pedro Silva (183-98, college: S.Mountain) who led the winners and scored 31 points, 5 assists and 4 steals. Forward Rafael Santos (200-99) accounted for 17 points for the winning side. Four Londrina players scored in double figures. Erike Lima (202-99) came up with 14 points and 8 rebounds and point guard Pedro Rodrigues (175-0) added 13 points and 5 assists respectively for Maringa in the defeat. Maringa's coach Jamison Silva gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win.
