LDB U20 Round 13: Corinthians hand first defeat to Sao Paulo

Sao Paulo (7-1) recorded its first loss on the court of fourth ranked Corinthians on Wednesday night. Visitors were edged by Corinthians 65-64. It ended at the same time the seven-game winning streak of Sao Paulo. Corinthians forced 22 Sao Paulo turnovers. Strangely Sao Paulo outrebounded Corinthians 50-30 including a 21-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. Leonardo Oliveira (-3) fired 20 points and 6 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) for the winners. Forward Ludwig Agustinho (202-1) chipped in 14 points and 7 rebounds. Guard Matheus Eugeniusz (192-0) produced 20 points and 7 rebounds for lost side. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Corinthians moved-up to second place, which they share with Franca and Sao Paulo. Corinthians' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Sao Paulo to the arena Paulistano.

The game in Sao Jose was also quite interesting. Third ranked Franca (7-1) played at the court of 5th ranked Sao Jose (5-3). Franca managed to secure a 5-point victory 67-62 on Wednesday. Adyel Pereira stepped up and scored 20 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. At the losing side Joao Moda responded with 20 points and 7 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Franca moved-up to second place, which they share with Corinthians and Sao Paulo. Sao Jose lost their third game in a row. They keep the fifth position with three games lost. Franca's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Sao Paulo to the arena Sao Paulo.

In the last two games of round 13 Campo Mourao defeated Caxias do Sul in a road game 89-79. U. Corinthians smashed ADRM at home 86-45.
The best stats of 13th round was 19 points by Bernardo Moller of U. Corinthians.



Paulistano - Pato 106-42

Undefeated leader Paulistano delivered the eighth consecutive victory. This time they crushed bottom-ranked Pato (0-8) 106-42 in Sao Paulo. Paulistano held Pato to an opponent 23.2 percent shooting from the field compared to 49.4 percent accuracy of the winners. Paulistano forced 28 Pato turnovers and outrebounded them 66-27 including a 29-11 advantage in offensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 26 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Pato's players. Worth to mention a great performance of Murilo Alves (202-2) who helped to win the game recording 18 points and 7 rebounds. Forward Bruno Cardoso (200-2) contributed with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Five Paulistano players scored in double figures. There was no surprise when 10th ranked Caxias do Sul (1-8) was defeated at home by sixth ranked Campo Mourao (4-5) 89-79 on Wednesday. Campo Mourao made 20-of-26 free shots (76.9 percent) during the game. Campo Mourao outrebounded Caxias do Sul 47-34 including 31 on the offensive glass. Wellington Rodrigues (-1) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 21 rebounds for the winners and forward Daniel Pereira (192-99) chipped in 14 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. At the losing side guard Elias Oliveira (189-1) responded with 20 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals and guard Shaw Scopel (197-3) scored 17 points. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Campo Mourao. They maintain sixth place with 4-5 record. Caxias do Sul lost their eighth game in a row. They keep the tenth position with eight games lost. Campo Mourao will meet at home Uniao Corinthians (#7) in the next round. Caxias do Sul will play against Country and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

No shocking result in a game in Sao Paulo where seventh ranked Uniao Corinthians (3-5) smashed 9th ranked Country (1-7) 86-45 on Wednesday. Uniao Corinthians forced 28 Country turnovers. Strangely Country outrebounded Uniao Corinthians 40-27 including 26 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Country's players. Bernardo Moller (190-99) stepped up and scored 19 points for the winners and center Vinicius Malachias (209-99) chipped in 17 points and 4 steals. At the losing side power forward Matheus Bonfim (204-99) responded with 8 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists and Erike Lima (202-99) scored 10 points and 8 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Uniao Corinthians maintains seventh place with 3-5 record. Country lost their third game in a row. They keep the ninth position with seven games lost. Uniao Corinthians will meet Coritiba (#8) on the road in the next round. Country will play against Caxias do Sul and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
