LDB U20 Round 15: Paulistano edge Sao Paulo by two after a very close game

The games at this stage are more interesting as they can be crucial for the final standings in Regular Season. Despite we already know who is stronger and who is weaker, there may be still last minute surprises and upsets. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most exciting game of round 15 in the LDB U20 took place in Sao Paulo. This derby game ended with only two-point home defeat of 4th placed Sao Paulo (7-3) to leader Paulistano (10-0) 68-66 on Saturday evening. It was a good game for guard Buiu Silva (189-1) who led his team to a victory with 23 points and 7 rebounds. Forward Bruno Cardoso (200-2) contributed with 10 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Guard Matheus Eugeniusz (192-0) answered with 12 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists for Sao Paulo. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Undefeated Paulistano have an impressive series of ten victories in a row. They maintain first place with 10-0 record. Sao Paulo lost third consecutive game. They keep the fourth position with three games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
An interesting game for Cerrado (6-1) which played road game in Sao Paulo against 4th placed Rio Claro (4-3). Second ranked Cerrado managed to get a 7-point victory 80-73. It was a great evening for guard Daniel Von Haydin (194-99) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds. Chamone Silva helped adding 20 points. The best for the losing side was guard Bruno Santilli (190-0) with 8 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Rio Claro's coach rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Cerrado. They maintain second place with 6-1 record having seven points less than leader Pinheiros. Rio Claro at the other side keeps the fourth position with three games lost. Cerrado will play against league's leader Pinheiros in Sao Paulo in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Rio Claro will play at home against Bauru and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

There were no big surprises in other games of round 15: Corinthians beat Sao Jose on the road 78-71. Bauru won against Mogi on its own court 79-73. Minas outscored UniFacisa in Belo Horizonte 93-56. Winless Cearense recorded a loss to Praia at home 57-75. Brasilia was crushed by Flamengo on the opponent's court 90-50.
The most impressive performance of 15th round was 20 points and 15 rebounds by Ruan Miranda of Flamengo.

Sao Jose - Corinthians 71-78

No shocking result in a game when third ranked Corinthians (8-2) beat on the road 5th ranked Sao Jose (6-4) 78-71 on Saturday. It was an exceptional evening for swingman Pedro Nunes (197-0) who led the winners and scored 22 points and 9 rebounds. Forward Ludwig Agustinho (202-1) accounted for 16 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side. Center Joao Moda (204-1) came up with 29 points and 8 rebounds and Pedro Pereira (190-1) added 10 points and 6 rebounds respectively for Sao Jose in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Corinthians maintains third place with 8-2 record having just two points less than leader Pinheiros. Loser Sao Jose keeps the fifth position with four games lost. Rather expected game when 5th ranked Mogi (3-4) lost on the road to third ranked Bauru (5-2) 79-73 on Monday. It was an exceptional evening for Samuel Ferreira (187-99) who led the winners and scored 33 points (!!!) and 8 assists. Guard Igor Araujo (193-99) accounted for 18 points and 8 rebounds for the winning side. Luiz Mendonc (-0) came up with 33 points (!!!) and center Felipe Cardoso (212-0) added 14 points and 10 rebounds respectively for Mogi in the defeat. Mogi's coach let to play eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Bauru maintains third place with 5-2 record having eight points less than leader Pinheiros. Loser Mogi dropped to the eighth position with four games lost. Bauru will meet Rio Claro (#4) in the next round. Mogi will have a break next round.

International forward Gui Santos (197-2) accounted for 22 points for the winning side. Four Minas players scored in double figures. Ivan Neto (196-2) came up with 13 points and 8 rebounds and center Luan Ribeiro (205-3) added 12 points respectively for UniFacisa in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Minas moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Flamengo and Praia. Loser UniFacisa dropped to the ninth position with five games lost. They share it with Brasilia. Minas will meet at home Cearense (#11) in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. UniFacisa will play against Brasilia and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Point guard Pedro Lobo (192-2) came up with 16 points and Davi Botelho (-2) added 15 points respectively for Cearense in the defeat. Praia moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Flamengo and Minas. Cearense lost their sixth game in a row. They still close the standings with six games lost.
