CBC League Round 3: Sao Jose keeps a leadership position

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

Sao Jose defeated Botafogo at home 77-67. Sao Jose dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Botafogo's 26. They outrebounded Botafogo 47-36 including 33 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was power forward Abner Moreira (206-1989, college: Idaho St.) who had a double-double by scoring 11 points and 20 rebounds. Dominican guard Miguel Dicent (190-1994, college: Morehead St.) chipped in 24 points. Sao Jose's coach Sebastian Luis Figueredo used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was point guard Wilson Carneiro (175-1994) who recorded 32 points. Botafogo will play next round against strong Praia trying to get back on the winning streak. Sao Jose will try to continue on its current victory against Vila Nova/AEGB in Goiania.
Vila Nova/AEGB (2-1) recorded a loss in Goiania. Hosts were defeated by Praia (2-1) 65-58. It was a good game for point guard Patrick Vieira (186-1993) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 13 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line). Raffael Mencarini contributed with 16 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Henrique Cerimelli (200-1997) answered with 16 points for Vila Nova/AEGB. Praia will play against Botafogo (#7) in Rio de Janeiro in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Vila Nova/AEGB will play at home against Sao Jose (#1) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
An interesting game where Vila Nova/AEGB (2-1) edged by three points Osasco (1-2) 67-64 on Sunday night. It was a great evening for Alef Alves who led his team to a victory scoring 23 points and 5 rebounds. The best for the losing side was Paulinho Boracini with 11 points and 7 assists. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Vila Nova/AEGB will meet at home Sao Jose in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Osasco will play against Botafogo in Rio de Janeiro and hope to win that game.

Other games of round 3 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
Basquete Santos was defeated by Praia in a road game 95-80. Winless Mesquita/LSB lost to undefeated Sao Jose at home 78-98. Osasco lost to Basquete Santos on the opponent's court 68-70. Winless Botafogo lost to undefeated Mesquita/LSB in a home game 72-80. Basquete Santos was rolled over Vila Nova/AEGB on the road 62-81. Praia was crushed by Osasco on its own court 56-91.



Praia - Basquete Santos 95-80

Praia used a home court advantage and beat the opponent from 95-80 on Sunday night. It was a great shooting night for Praia especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 61.1 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Praia made 7 blocks. It was a great evening for Joao Mamedes (201-1998) who led his team to a victory scoring 30 points and 9 rebounds. Forward Gabriel Cunha (188-2000) helped adding 18 points and 6 rebounds. The best for the losing side was Luizinho Lima (196-1993) with a double-double by scoring 12 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists and point guard Jefferson Campos (188-1991) scored 16 points. Four Basquete Santos players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Praia will meet at home Botafogo (#7) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Basquete Santos will play against LSB / B2B and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Very expected game when Osasco (1-2) was edged on the road by Basquete Santos (1-2) 70-68 on Monday. However just two-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory.
