CBC League Round 7 of Regular Season

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

Third defeat of league's leader Praia (6-3) against fifth ranked Basquete Santos (5-4) 78-76 was the most important game of the last round. Basquete Santos outrebounded Praia 58-44 including a 22-11 advantage in offensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of forward Leandro Abreu (195-2004) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 21 points and 25 rebounds. point guard Jefferson Campos (188-1991) contributed with 15 points and 4 assists for the winners. point guard Patrick Vieira (186-1993) answered with 27 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals for Praia. Basquete Santos moved-up to third place, which they share with Osasco. Praia at the other side dropped to the second position with three games lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Blumenau. Praia will play next round against Botafogo trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Basquete Santos will try to continue on its current victory against third ranked LSB / B2B in Sorocabana.
The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Sao Jose as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Sao Jose defeated 4th placed Mesquita/LSB at home 87-72. It was a great evening for power forward Abner Moreira (206-1989, college: Idaho St.) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 11 rebounds (perfect from the field making all eight shots !!!). Arthur Pecos helped adding 11 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists. At the losing side point guard Diego Gomes (183-1991) responded with 15 points. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Sao Jose have a solid series of three victories in a row. As mentioned above they took over a top position. Mesquita/LSB at the other side dropped to the seventh place with two games lost. Mesquita/LSB will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest in order to get back on the winning path. Sao Jose will try to continue on its current victory against fifth ranked Vila Nova/AEGB at Goiania.
Leading Praia (6-3) recorded its third loss on the court of fourth ranked Osasco on Monday night. Visitors were edged by Osasco 81-79. It was an exceptional evening for Yan Djalo who led the winners and scored 21 points and 8 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). Osasco's coach Joao Lourenco used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. Patrick Vieira came up with 21 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for Praia in the defeat. Osasco (5-4) moved-up to third place, which they share with Basquete Santos. Loser Praia dropped to the second position with three games lost. Osasco will meet at home Botafogo (#6) in the next round. Praia will play against Botafogo (#6) in Rio de Janeiro and hope to secure a win.

Other games in round 7 were not that significant. Osasco was beaten by Vila Nova/AEGB on the road 67-61. Praia won against Vila Nova/AEGB on its own court 66-54. Basquete Santos was outscored by Osasco in a road game 81-62. Mesquita/LSB recorded a loss to Botafogo at home 63-68. Vila Nova/AEGB was defeated by Basquete Santos on the opponent's court 93-89. Botafogo was beaten by Sao Jose in a home game 66-69.

Basquete Santos - Praia 78-76

The game between closely ranked teams ended with third ranked Vila Nova/AEGB's (4-5) home victory over 4th placed Osasco (5-4) in Goiania 67-61 on Saturday. Vila Nova/AEGB forced 22 Osasco turnovers and outrebounded them 33-22 including 23 on the defensive glass. It was an exceptional evening for guard Felipe Augusto (185-1996) who led the winners and scored 18 points and 6 rebounds. Guard Luis Otavio Vieira (196-1992) accounted for 14 points and 6 rebounds for the winning side. Forward Igor Avelino (196-1993) came up with 13 points and 7 rebounds and guard Alexei Patricio (192-1997) added 12 points and 6 assists respectively for Osasco in the defeat. Osasco's coach Joao Lourenco rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Despite that victory Vila Nova/AEGB went down to fifth position due to points difference. Loser Osasco dropped to the third place with four games lost. They share the position with Basquete Santos. Vila Nova/AEGB will meet league's leader Sao Jose on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Osasco will play against Botafogo and hope to secure a win.

As mentioned above they took over a top position. Mesquita/LSB at the other side dropped to the seventh place with two games lost. Mesquita/LSB will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest in order to get back on the winning path. Sao Jose will try to continue on its current victory against fifth ranked Vila Nova/AEGB at Goiania.

Rather expected game when 3rd placed Vila Nova/AEGB (4-5) lost on the road to first ranked Praia (6-3) 66-54 on Sunday. It was an exceptional evening for point guard Patrick Vieira (186-1993) who led the winners and scored 15 points and 9 rebounds. Joao Mamedes (201-1998) accounted for 8 points and 12 rebounds for the winning side. Guard Felipe Augusto (185-1996) came up with 20 points and 9 rebounds and Jose Mauro Barrozo (201-1996) added 7 points and 11 rebounds respectively for Vila Nova/AEGB in the defeat. Vila Nova/AEGB's coach Breno Pinheiro rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Despite that victory Praia went down to second position due to points difference. Loser Vila Nova/AEGB dropped to the fifth place with five games lost. Praia will meet Botafogo (#6) in the next round. Vila Nova/AEGB will play against the league's leader Sao Jose and hope to secure a win.

It was an exceptional evening for Andre Mendes (192-1993) who led the winners and scored 27 points and 6 rebounds. Forward Luiz Felipe Santo (195-1998) accounted for 15 points and 10 rebounds for the winning side. Forward Caio Verissimo (198-2001) came up with 20 points and 7 rebounds and forward Lucao Barbosa (199-1999) added 10 points respectively for Mesquita/LSB in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Botafogo maintains sixth place with 2-6 record. Loser Mesquita/LSB dropped to the seventh position with two games lost. Power forward Abner Moreira (206-1989, college: Idaho St.) accounted for 13 points and 14 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) for the winning side. Sao Jose's coach Sebastian Luis Figueredo allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Guard Nathanael Nascimento (188-1994) came up with 20 points and 5 assists and center Marcio Andrade (205-1999) added 13 points and 13 rebounds respectively for Botafogo in the defeat. Sao Jose have a solid series of three victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader. Loser Botafogo keeps the sixth place with six games lost.
