LDB U20 Round 1: Coritiba hand first loss to Cerrado

The Regular Season in LDB U20 just started. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Cerrado on the court of Coritiba on Monday night. Visitors were defeated by Coritiba 70-64. 25 personal fouls committed by Cerrado helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of guard Magno Alves (193-2001) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 15 points and 13 rebounds. Guard Matheus Ribas (182-2000) contributed with 21 points for the winners. Coritiba's coach Fabio Pellanda used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Forward Joao Camargo (202-2001, college: Arizona W. CC) answered with 20 points and 9 rebounds for Cerrado. Coritiba is looking forward to face Uniao Corinthians in Sao Paulo in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Cerrado will play on the road against Vasco da Gama and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
An interesting game for Vasco da Gama which played road game in Rio de Janeiro against Botafogo. Vasco da Gama managed to get a 8-point victory 60-52. Point guard Matheusinho Brito (184-2000) stepped up and scored 26 points and 8 rebounds for the winners and Caua Queiroz chipped in 5 points and 6 rebounds. At the losing side Joao Macedo (202-2002) responded with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 16 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Vasco da Gama will play against Cerrado in Brasilia in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Botafogo will play at home against Caxias do Sul to get more than just one victory in their record.

Botafogo - Vasco da Gama 52-60

An interesting game for Vasco da Gama which played road game in Rio de Janeiro against Botafogo. Vasco da Gama managed to get a 8-point victory 60-52. Vasco da Gama held Botafogo to an opponent 23.7 percent shooting from the field compared to 28.8 percent accuracy of the winners. Power forward Ruan Miranda (205-2001) nailed a double-double by scoring 19 points and 14 rebounds for the winning side and power forward Augusto Alcassa (211-2000) accounted for 20 points and 9 rebounds. Four Cerrado players scored in double figures. Guard Elias Oliveira (189-2001) came up with 16 points and 5 rebounds and guard Gabriel Santos (185-2001) added 12 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals respectively for Caxias do Sul in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. However just six-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory.
