LDB U20 Round 2: Vasco da Gama lose to Cerrado

There were only 2 rounds played so far and it's still very beginning of the Regular Season in LDB U20. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Vasco da Gama at the home court on Friday night. Hosts were rolled over by Cerrado 82-58. Cerrado outrebounded Vasco da Gama 47-29 including a 38-21 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was power forward Ruan Miranda (205-2001) who had a double-double by scoring 20 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists. point guard Robson Junior (178-2000) chipped in 10 points, 10 rebounds and 8 assists. Giovane Viana (-2003) produced 15 points for the hosts. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Cerrado is looking forward to face Botafogo in Rio de Janeiro in the next round. Vasco da Gama will play at home against Uniao Corinthians and is hoping to prove to their fans that the loss was just an accident.
Another exciting game was between Vasco da Gama and Caxias do Sul where Vasco da Gama beat Caxias do Sul on the road 79-75. Point guard Matheusinho Brito (184-2000) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 32 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists. Caua Queiroz contributed with 21 points for the winners. Vasco da Gama's coach Daniel Bello allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Guard Gabriel Santos (185-2001) replied with 15 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists for Caxias do Sul. Vasco da Gama will play against Uniao Corinthians in Sao Paulo in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Caxias do Sul will play at home against Coritiba and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
A very close game took place in Sao Paulo between Uniao Corinthians and Coritiba. Uniao Corinthians got a very close home victory over Coritiba. Uniao Corinthians managed to escape with a 2-point win 65-63 on Friday evening. Gabriel Camargo scored 15 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the charge for the winners. Gabriel Soldi responded with 27 points and 7 rebounds. Uniao Corinthians will meet Vasco da Gama on the road in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Coritiba will play against Caxias do Sul and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Rest of the games of round 2 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
winless Botafogo was defeated by Coritiba in a road game 64-54. Uniao Corinthians was smashed by Cerrado at home 72-119. Paulistano won against Bauru on the opponent's court 60-56. Winless Botafogo was outscored by Caxias do Sul in a home game 65-85. Franca managed to beat Rio Claro on the road 64-47. Corinthians defeated Cearense on its own court 58-51.



Caxias do Sul - Vasco da Gama 75-79

Another exciting game was between Vasco da Gama and Caxias do Sul where Vasco da Gama beat Caxias do Sul on the road 79-75. There was an upset when Botafogo was defeated on the road by Coritiba 64-54 on Wednesday. Coritiba outrebounded Botafogo 54-32 including a 22-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. Point guard Gustavo Nunes (183-2001) had a double-double by scoring 10 points and 17 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Gabriel Soldi (202-2000) chipped in 14 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. Joao Macedo (202-2002) responded with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 14 rebounds and guard Joao Belmiro (186-2002) scored 16 points and 6 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Coritiba will meet Caxias do Sul on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Botafogo will play against Cerrado in Brasilia and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Uniao Corinthians - Cerrado 72-119

No shocking result in a game in Sao Paulo where Cerrado smashed Uniao Corinthians 119-72 on Wednesday. Cerrado dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Uniao Corinthians' 26 and made 28-of-36 free shots (77.8 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Uniao Corinthians 45-26 including 29 on the offensive glass. Cerrado looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Power forward Ruan Miranda (205-2001) had a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!) and 11 rebounds (on 12-of-15 shooting from the field) to lead the charge for the winners and forward Joao Vitor Camargo (202-2001, college: Arizona W. CC) chipped in 22 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists during the contest. Five Cerrado players scored in double figures. Point guard Sergio Montipo (183-2002) responded with 21 points and 4 assists and guard Gabriel Camargo (194-2001) scored 17 points and 5 rebounds. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Cerrado will meet at home Botafogo in the next round. Uniao Corinthians will play against Vasco da Gama and hope to win that game.

Very expected game when Bauru was defeated at home by Paulistano 60-56 on Friday. Paulistano outrebounded Bauru 51-32 including a 25-9 advantage in defensive rebounds. Point guard Adyel Pereira (188-2002) had a double-double by scoring 15 points and 15 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and guard Matheus Silva (189-2001) chipped in 12 points and 9 rebounds during the contest. Paulistano's coach used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. Center Felipe Cardoso (212-2000) responded with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 13 rebounds and guard Joao Guizardi (184-2004) scored 18 points. Paulistano will meet Cearense in the next round. Bauru will play against Rio Claro in Sao Paulo and hope to win that game.

There was a small surprise in Rio de Janeiro where Caxias do Sul outscored Botafogo 85-65 on Friday. Caxias do Sul forced 26 Botafogo turnovers. Jamison Costa (199-2000) scored 20 points to lead the charge for the winners and guard Gabriel Santos (185-2001) chipped in 15 points, 8 assists and 6 steals during the contest. Four Caxias do Sul players scored in double figures. Joao Macedo (202-2002) responded with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 16 rebounds and guard Joao Belmiro (186-2002) scored 16 points and 5 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Caxias do Sul will meet at home Coritiba in the next round.
