NBB Round 13: Sao Paulo lose to Flamengo in the game between Top 4 teams

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The game between Top Four teams took place in Sao Paulo. 3rd placed host Sao Paulo (10-3) was smashed by second ranked Flamengo (12-1) 91-66. It ended at the same time the eight-game winning streak of Sao Paulo. Flamengo made 16-of-20 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. Flamengo had a 32-19 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Argentinian Martin Cuello (193-1993) stepped up and scored 22 points and 7 assists for the winners and the former international center Rafael Hettsheimeir (210-1986) chipped in 17 points and 8 rebounds. At the losing side American guard Cordero Bennett (185-1988) responded with 19 points. Flamengo have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. They maintain second place with 12-1 record behind leader Sesi Franca. Sao Paulo at the other side keeps the third position with three games lost. Flamengo are looking forward to face Paulistano (#6) in Sao Paulo in the next round. Sao Paulo will play at home against Sao Jose and is hoping to prove to their supporters that the loss was just an accident.
NBB top team - Vivo/Franca (13-0) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed fifteenth ranked Cerrado (2-11) in Sao Paulo 98-76. The former international point guard Georginho de Paula (197-1996) nailed a triple-double by scoring 11 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists for the winning side and Lucas Silva accounted for 24 points. Vivo/Franca's coach Helinho Garcia felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Guard Paulo Da Costa (193-1994) came up with 17 points and 9 rebounds for Cerrado in the defeat. The victory was the thirteenth consecutive win for Vivo/Franca. They maintain first place with 13-0 record. Cerrado at the other side keeps the fifteenth position with 11 games lost. They share it with Rio Claro. Vivo/Franca will play against Brasilia (#12) at home in the next round which should be another easy win for them. Cerrado will play against Rio Claro and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Brasilia managed to escape with a 2-point win 87-85 on Tuesday evening. Douglas Dos Santos fired 22 points and 9 rebounds (made all of his seven free throws) for the winners. Kenny Dawkins produced a double-double by scoring 20 points and 10 assists for lost side. Brasilia moved-up to tenth place, which they share with Sao Jose and Caxias do Sul. Rio Claro lost their sixth game in a row. They dropped to the fifteenth position with 11 games lost. They share it with Cerrado. Brasilia will meet league's leader Vivo/Franca in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Rio Claro will play against Cerrado (#15) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 13: Bauru won against Pato Basquete on the opponent's court 96-85. UniFacisa managed to outperform Caxias do Sul in a home game 63-56. U.Corinthians managed to beat Fortaleza on the road 94-83. Corinthians was crushed by Minas on its own court 65-94. Sao Jose was beaten by Paulistano in Sao Paulo 72-62.



Pato Basquete - Bauru 85-96

Very expected game in Pato Branco where 13th ranked Pato (4-9) was defeated by eighth ranked Paschoalotto/Bauru (7-5) 96-85 on Monday. Paschoalotto/Bauru made 25-of-27 free shots (92.6 percent) during the game, while Pato only scored seven points from the stripe. Argentinian point guard Jonatan Machuca (186-1989) fired 23 points and 5 rebounds (made all of his nine free throws !!!) for the winners. The former international guard Danilo Fuzaro (193-1994) chipped in 16 points and 4 assists. Jonatan Oliveira (188-1999) produced 26 points and Venezuelan swingman Jose Materan (196-1996) added 16 points respectively for lost side. Five Paschoalotto/Bauru and four Pato players scored in double figures. Pato's coach rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Defending champion maintains eighth place with 7-5 record. Loser Pato keeps the thirteenth position with nine games lost. Paschoalotto/Bauru will meet higher ranked Pinheiros (#7) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Pato will play against Minas (#4) and hope to secure a win.
