LDB U20 Round 1 of Second Stage

The Second Stage in LDB U20 just started. The round was exceptionally exciting as three games ended with a tiny margin. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

First defeat of league's leader Corinthians against Pinheiros 82-80 was the most important game of the last round. Pinheiros made 26-of-32 free shots (81.3 percent) during the game, while Corinthians only scored eight points from the stripe. Worth to mention a great performance of point guard Tiago Faria (178) who helped to win the game recording 28 points and 4 assists (made all of his eight free throws). point guard Adyel Borges (188-2002) contributed with 18 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Pinheiros' coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. point guard Gabriel Campos (182-2001) answered with 36 points (!!!) and 5 rebounds for Corinthians.
Franca defeated Praia in Sao Paulo 70-60. The former international power forward Marcio Santos (204-2002) stepped up and scored 22 points and 8 rebounds for the winners and Edu Elevi chipped in 9 points, 13 rebounds and 7 assists. At the losing side guard Raffael Mencarini (187-2001) responded with 18 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games.

Other games in round 1 were not that significant. Winless Caxias do Sul was smashed by Corinthians on the road 87-62. Winless Praia lost to Minas on its own court 63-69. SESI Franca managed to outperform Paulistano in Sao Paulo 68-58. Sao Jose recorded a loss to Corinthians at home 66-78. Pinheiros crushed Caxias do Sul on the opponent's court 93-59. Minas was smashed by Paulistano in a home game 57-77. Sao Jose won against Caxias do Sul on the road 70-67. SESI Franca outscored Minas on its own court 83-55. Winless Praia was rolled over Paulistano in Sao Paulo 83-54.
The most impressive performance of 1st round was 23 points and 7 rebounds by Henrique Da Silva of Paulistano.

Corinthians - Caxias do Sul 87-62

No shocking result in a game when Corinthians crushed Caxias do Sul in Sao Paulo 87-62 on Tuesday. Corinthians made 17-of-22 free shots (77.3 percent) during the game. Jonathan Costa (193-2002) nailed 9 points and 15 rebounds for the winning side and point guard Gabriel Campos (182-2001) accounted for 14 points and 4 assists. Vinicius Chagas (202-2001) came up with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 11 rebounds and Leonardo Cravero (200-2002) added 11 points and 9 rebounds respectively for Caxias do Sul in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games.

Ecuadorian guard Pedro Infante (195-2001) nailed 23 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side and point guard Gabriel Caldeira (185-2004) accounted for 10 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Point guard Adyel Borges (188-2002) came up with 15 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists and naturalized Guinea-Bissau forward Yan Barbosa (204) added 11 points and 10 rebounds respectively for Pinheiros in the defeat. Guard Raffael Mencarini (187-2001) came up with 21 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists and guard Jose Vitor Policcici (184-2001) added 16 points and 5 rebounds respectively for Praia in the defeat.

Point guard Gabriel Campos (182-2001) nailed 26 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists for the winning side and Jonathan Costa (193-2002) accounted for 16 points and 17 rebounds. Four Corinthians players scored in double figures. Afonso Campos (-2004) came up with 21 points and 9 rebounds and forward Vitor Narcizio (193-2002) added 19 points respectively for Sao Jose in the defeat. Sao Jose's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help.

Very expected game when Minas was smashed by Franca in Sao Paulo 83-55 on Thursday. Franca dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Minas' 24. They outrebounded Minas 53-25 including a 38-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Franca especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 53.3 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Center Joao Almeida (200-2004) nailed a double-double by scoring 12 points and 10 rebounds for the winning side and Joao Padilha (-2006) accounted for 8 points and 9 rebounds.
