The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Tatui/AABT (1-1) at the home court on Wednesday night. Hosts were edged by Cruzeiro (2-1) 70-69. Cruzeiro outrebounded Tatui/AABT 40-23 including 29 on the defensive glass. It was a great evening for American swingman Jalen Hodges (198, college: UMW, agency: Interperformances) who led his team to a victory scoring 15 points and 8 rebounds. Naturalized Greek Dimitris Sousa (193-1994, college: UVA Wise) helped adding 15 points and 4 assists. The best for the losing side was the former international power forward William Drudi (206-1981) with 19 points and 7 rebounds. Cruzeiro will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Tatui/AABT will play against Praia and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Important game to mention about took place in Brusque. Santos (3-1) saved a 2-point victory on the road edging Brusque (1-2) 83-81 on Wednesday evening. It was an exceptional evening for power forward Dida Pereira (202-1992, college: Sequoias CC) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 12 rebounds. Gustavo Ruiz accounted for 16 points and 5 rebounds. Santos' coach Daniel Correa Leque allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Andre Mendes (192-1993) came up with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!) for Brusque in the defeat. Santos will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Brusque will play on the road against Osasco and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
