American Guard Cordero Bennett (185-G-1988) put on an amazing game in the last round for Sao Paulo FC, receiving a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 27. The 35-year old player was the main contributor (21 points, nine rebounds and six assists) to his team's victory, helping them to beat Brasilia (#19, 4-29) 93-84. The game rather meaningless between the teams, which do not have any influence on top of the standings. Sao Paulo maintains the 11th position in Brazilian NBB. Sao Paulo is a typical solid league team placed somewhere in the middle or a little bit lower in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 17-16 record. In the team's last game Bennett had a remarkable 90.0% from 2-point range. He has many years of experience at Sao Paulo, through which he has constantly improved. Cordero Bennett averages this season 10.7ppg.
The second best player in last round's games was young Bruno Cardoso (197-F-2002) of Paulistano/Corpore Sao Paolo. Cardoso had a very good evening with a double-double of 21 points and 17 rebounds. Of course Paulistano cruised to a 82-71 relatively comfortable win over the lower-ranked Cerrado (#16, 8-24). This victory allowed Paulistano to move up to 6th position in the standings. His team lost some distance to top teams. But a 20-13 record is not bad and everything may still change. Cardoso is a newcomer at Paulistano and despite he is not a team leader yet, every game he becomes more reliable player. Hopefully performances like the last one will happen more often.
Third on the list of top players last round was American guard Thomas Cooper (196-G-1992) of BRB/Brasilia (#19). Cooper showcased his all-around game by recording 18 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists in the last round. Despite Cooper's great performance the Brasilia lost 84-93 to the higher-ranked Sao Paulo (#11, 17-16). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. Brasilia can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have extremely bad season and 4-29 record places them at the very bottom of the standings. Cooper has individually a great season in Brazil. After 33 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 17.1ppg (4th best).
Other top performing players last week: 4. Lucas Siewert (208-F-1997) of Sao Paulo - 24 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists 5. Gui Pereira (192-G-1991) of Flamengo - 23 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists 6. Luciano Gonzalez (194-G-1990) of Minas - 22 points, 4 rebounds and 6 assists 7. Marcio Santos (204-F/C-2002) of Sesi Franca - 23 points and 7 rebounds 8. Didi Louzada (195-G-1999) of Flamengo - 20 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists 9. Lucas Dias (208-C-1995) of Sesi Franca - 24 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists 10. Rafael Paulichi (201-PF-1998) of Vasco da Gama - 22 points and 8 rebounds
The Player of the week is selected based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc. The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy. The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3*(REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4*(2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3*(2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3*(3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
