NBB Round 28 (Regular Season): Flamengo keep a leadership position

There are only two more rounds left in the Regular Season in NBB. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Flamengo as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Flamengo smashed 8th ranked Corinthians in Rio de Janeiro 88-58. Flamengo dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Corinthians' 32. Flamengo forced 20 Corinthians turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists comparing to just 15 passes made by Corinthians' players. The former international Gabriel Galvanini (202-1998) fired 24 points and 6 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field) for the winners. The former international center Maique Tavares (210-1993) chipped in 19 points and 9 rebounds. The former international forward Leonardo Demetrio (203-1994) produced 12 points and 8 rebounds for lost side. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Flamengo (30-5) have an impressive six-game winning streak. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Sesi Franca. Corinthians at the other side dropped to the ninth place with 16 games lost. They share the position with Sao Jose and Sao Paulo. Just two games before the end of Regular Season and it may be the most important game of the season next round when Corinthians faces Botafogo trying to get back on the winning streak. Flamengo will try to continue on its current victory against thirteenth ranked Pinheiros in Sao Paulo.

Worth to mention a great performance of the former international center Guilherme Hubner (209-1987) who helped to win the game recording 16 points and 6 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). Antonio Ferreira contributed with 13 points and 4 assists for the winners. Center Sergio Conceicao (208-2000) replied with 16 points and 6 rebounds for Vasco da Gama. Vasco da Gama's coach rotated eleven players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. UniFacisa moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Paulistano. Vasco da Gama lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the fourth position with 11 games lost. UniFacisa will play against Cerrado (#16) in Brasilia in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Vasco da Gama will have a break next round.
A very close game took place in Fortaleza between Fortaleza and Vasco da Gama. Ninth ranked Fortaleza (19-15) got a very close home victory over higher ranked Vasco da Gama (23-11). Fortaleza managed to escape with a 1-point win 70-69 on Saturday evening. It was quite big embarassment for the guest team. Worth to mention a great performance of Sebastian Orresta who helped to win the game recording 14 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists. At the losing side Kevin Santos responded with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds. Cearense moved-up to eighth place. Vasco da Gama lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the fourth position with 11 games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

Rest of the games of round 28 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
Sao Jose defeated Bauru in a road game 92-91. Corinthians beat Caxias do Sul at home 107-93. Mogi lost to Sesi Franca on the opponent's court 69-73. Pinheiros outscored U.Corinthians in a home game 83-59. Cerrado recorded a loss to Sao Paulo on the road 79-70. Paulistano crushed Caxias do Sul on its own court 75-56. Minas beat Pato in Belo Horizonte 77-69. Bottom-ranked Brasilia lost to Sesi Franca at home 100-105.



Bauru - Sao Jose 91-92

There was an upset when higher ranked Paschoalotto/Bauru (23-12) was edged at home by eleventh ranked Sao Jose (18-16) 92-91 on Wednesday. Sao Jose looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of Douglas Silva (201-1998) who helped to win the game recording 21 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) and Venezuelan guard Pedro Chourio (196-1990, agency: Pro Sports) who added 19 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. Sao Jose's coach Sebastian Luis Figueredo used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the losing side the former international guard Alex Garcia (190-1980, agency: Interperformances) responded with 20 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists and American Jeremy Hollowell (203-1994, college: Georgia St., agency: BIG) scored 11 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Corinthians shot the lights out from three sinking 19 long-distance shots on high 55.9 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international point guard Elio Corazza (191-1989, college: Miami Dade CC) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 17 points and 21 assists (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) and the former international center Rafael Hettsheimeir (210-1986) who added 25 points during the contest.
