CBB Round 7 (Regular Season): Praia lose to Cruzeiro

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Praia (4-2) at the home court on Saturday night. Hosts were edged by Cruzeiro (5-1) 64-63. It was a key game for the top position in the league. 24 personal fouls committed by Praia helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Derick Machado (198-1996) fired a double-double by scoring 10 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. Jose Carlos (200-1997) chipped in 10 points and 6 rebounds. Cruzeiro's coach Brenno Brassioli used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Power forward Joao Demetrio (208-1995) produced a double-double by scoring 14 points and 11 rebounds for lost side. Cruzeiro have a solid series of four victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader. Praia at the other side dropped to the second place with two games lost.
Important game to mention about took place in Osasco. Second ranked Osasco (5-2) saved a 2-point victory at home edging 3rd placed Blumenau (3-4) 86-84 in the game for the second place. Worth to mention a great performance of Everton Gomes who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 18 points and 14 rebounds. Hatila Passos contributed with 15 points and 9 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) for the winners. Guard Alexei Patricio (193-1997) answered with a double-double by scoring 16 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists for Blumenau. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Osasco maintains second place with 5-2 record behind leader Cruzeiro. Blumenau at the other side keeps the third position with four games lost. Osasco will again play against Blumenau (#3) on the road in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Blumenau will play against Sorocabana and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

At the losing side Guilherme Bento responded with 13 points and 5 assists. Vitoria maintains fourth place with 1-5 record. Loser Tatui/AABT keeps the third position with four games lost.

Other games of round 7 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
Blumenau was defeated by Santos in a road game 70-66. Sorocabana smashed Brusque at home 72-45. Brusque was destroyed by Santos on the opponent's court 77-46.




Vitoria - Tatui/AABT 68-57

Very important is a road loss of third ranked Tatui/AABT (2-4) against fourth ranked Vitoria (1-5) on Tuesday night. Visiting Tatui/AABT was defeated by Vitoria in Salvador 68-57. It was a great evening for guard Victor Pedreira (191-1996) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds. Power forward Pedro Sousa (205-1996) helped adding 13 points and 6 rebounds. At the losing side the former international Guilherme Bento (195-1997) responded with 13 points and 5 assists and guard Rafael Castellon (191-1985) scored 13 points. Vitoria maintains fourth place with 1-5 record. Loser Tatui/AABT keeps the third position with four games lost.

Santos - Blumenau 70-66

There was no surprise when 3rd placed Blumenau (3-4) was defeated on the road by first ranked Santos (6-2) 70-66 on Friday. It was a great evening for guard Gabriel De Oliveira (202-1993) who led his team to a victory scoring 19 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists. Forward Guilherme Estevao (204-2000) helped adding 16 points. Four Santos players scored in double figures. At the losing side Joao Mamedes (201-1998) responded with 13 points and 8 rebounds and point guard Lucas Farina (186-1995) scored 16 points. Blumenau's coach Andre Germano rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Santos have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain first place with 6-2 record. Loser Blumenau keeps the third position with four games lost. Santos will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Blumenau will play against the league's second-placed Osasco and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Everything could happen at the game between two tied teams. Both third ranked Sorocabana and 5th ranked Brusque had identical 2-5 record. This time Sorocabana used a home court advantage and smashed the opponent from Brusque 72-45 on Friday night. Sorocabana dominated down low during the game scoring 44 of its points in the paint compared to Brusque's 22. Sorocabana forced 24 Brusque turnovers. It was a great evening for point guard Adler Ribeiro (180-2000) who led his team to a victory scoring 20 points. Point guard Beto Fagundes (188-2000) helped adding 11 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 7 steals. Sorocabana's coach felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side forward Marcus Maffezzolli (197-2004) responded with 15 points and 6 rebounds and Samuel Santos (187-1999) scored 12 points. Despite that victory Sorocabana went down to fourth position due to points difference. Brusque lost sixth consecutive game. They keep the fifth place with six games lost. Sorocabana will meet at home higher ranked Blumenau (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Brusque will play against the league's second-placed Osasco and hope to secure a win.

Four Santos players scored in double figures. Santos' coach Daniel Correa Leque felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games.
