NBB Round 3 (Regular Season): Bauru is defeated by Minas

After 3 rounds played we can already see who rules in the NBB and who belongs to weaker ones. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most surprising game was a loss of Paschoalotto/Bauru (1-1) at the home court on Thursday night. Hosts were edged by Minas (2-1) 82-81. 24 personal fouls committed by Bauru helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a great evening for Argentinian point guard Franco Baralle (182-1999) who led his team to a victory scoring 13 points and 7 assists. The former international guard Danilo Fuzaro (193-1994) helped adding 15 points. The best for the losing side was American point guard Dontrell Brite (175-1994, college: Mount Olive) with 24 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Minas are looking forward to face Sao Jose (#18) at home in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Paschoalotto/Bauru will have a break next round.
The game in Mogi das Cruzes supposed to be also worth to mention about. Flamengo (3-0) played at the court of Mogi (2-2). Flamengo smashed Mogi 114-66. It was an exceptional evening for Argentinian power forward Tayavek Gallizzi (206-1993) who led the winners and scored 16 points and 9 rebounds (perfect from the field making all eight shots !!!). Gui Pereira accounted for 18 points and 4 assists. Guard Raffael Mencarini (187-2001) came up with 16 points for Mogi in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
A very close game took place in Mogi das Cruzes between Mogi and Vasco da Gama. Mogi (2-2) got a very close home victory over Vasco da Gama (1-2). Mogi managed to escape with a 1-point win 66-65 on Thursday evening. Host team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. The best player for the winners was Gabriel Campos who scored 13 points, 9 assists and 4 steals. At the other side the best for losing team was Rafael Paulichi who recorded 20 points and 6 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Mogi will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Vasco da Gama will play against Pinheiros (#13) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 3: Flamengo won against Sao Jose on the opponent's court 71-63. Pato lost to undefeated Sao Paulo in a home game 81-88. Winless Brasilia lost to undefeated Sesi/Franca on the road 74-79. UniFacisa was defeated by Caxias do Sul on its own court 63-81. U.Corinthians beat Cearense in Santa Cruz do Sul 79-70. Winless Corinthians lost to undefeated Sao Paulo at home 80-82.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 28 points and 8 rebounds by Vitor Faverani of Sao Paulo.



Sao Jose - Flamengo 63-71

Very expected game when Sao Jose (0-3) was defeated at home by Flamengo (3-0) 71-63 on Thursday. The best player for the winners was American swingman Jordan Williams (196-1992, college: N.Texas) who scored 27 points and 8 rebounds. The former international point guard Alexey Borges (185-1995) chipped in 9 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was Douglas Silva (202-1998) who recorded 17 points and Argentinian guard Franco Vieta (194-1992) added 11 points and 4 steals respectively. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Flamengo will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Sao Jose will play against Brasilia (#17) and hopes to get finally their first victory.

The best player for the winners was American power forward Tyrone Curnell (203-1988, college: Valdosta St.) who scored 15 points and 7 rebounds. The former international center Vitor Faverani (212-1988) chipped in 13 points and 9 rebounds. Four Sao Paulo players scored in double figures. Sao Paulo's coach Jorge Guerra used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was American point guard Nate Barnes (181-1990, college: ABU) who recorded 52 points (!!!) and guard Caue Freitas (192-1988) added 3 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists respectively. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. American guard David Jackson (192-1982, college: Penn State) chipped in 12 points and 5 assists. A very close game took place in Mogi das Cruzes between Mogi and Vasco da Gama. Mogi (2-2) got a very close home victory over Vasco da Gama (1-2). They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by UniFacisa's players. The best player for the winners was the former international Betinho Nardi (195-1988) who scored 14 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists. Naturalized American swingman Shamell Stallworth (195-1980, college: USF) chipped in 8 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was guard Augusto Leao (184-1998) who recorded 9 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists and center Sergio da Conceicao (209-2000) added 9 points and 7 rebounds respectively. U.Corinthians made 18-of-23 free shots (78.3 percent) during the game. They also forced 19 Fortaleza turnovers. The best player for the winners was the former international center Dikembe Andre (206-1999, agency: BMS Sport Agency) who scored 15 points and 5 rebounds. Argentinian point guard Jonatan Machuca (186-1989) chipped in 7 points and 8 assists. U.Corinthians' coach used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games.
