NBB Round 4 (Regular Season): Sesi/Franca lose to Sao Paulo

It's still too early stage of the Regular Season in NBB, but even now we can clearly see the difference between stronger teams and outsiders. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of Vivo/Franca (2-1) on the court of top-ranked Sao Paulo on Tuesday night. Visitors were defeated by Sao Paulo 82-66. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Vivo/Franca. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Sao Paulo made 17-of-20 free shots (85.0 percent) during the game. The former international point guard Ricardo Fischer (185-1991) fired 16 points and 4 assists for the winners. The former international center Vitor Faverani (212-1988) chipped in 10 points and 13 rebounds. Sao Paulo's coach Jorge Guerra used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The former international point guard Georginho de Paula (197-1996) produced a double-double by scoring 10 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists for lost side. Sao Paulo have a solid three-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Flamengo. Sesi/Franca at the other side dropped to the fourth place with one game lost. They share the position with Botafogo and Pinheiros. Sao Paulo is looking forward to face Bauru (#11) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Sesi/Franca's supporters also look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Sao Paulo to the arena Paulistano.
U.Corinthians can celebrate their first win this season after one consecutive losses. The victory is especially important as they defeated much higher ranked Caxias do Sul (1-2) on the road game in Caxias do Sul 89-77. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Duane Johnson (204-1991, college: ESU) who helped to win the game recording 37 points (!!!), 7 rebounds and 4 assists (made all of his ten free throws !!!). Dikembe Andre contributed with 10 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. The former international Betinho Nardi (195-1988) replied with 20 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists for Caxias do Sul. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. U.Corinthians (1-1) left bottom position moving up to tenth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Caxias do Sul at the other side dropped to the fourteenth position with two games lost. They share it with Cearense. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
Brasilia can celebrate their first win this season after three consecutive losses. They used home court advantage to defeat Sao Jose (0-5) 81-76 on Wednesday. Worth to mention a great performance of Gemadinha Sacco who helped to win the game recording 28 points. Brasilia's coach Dede Barbosa allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. At the losing side Douglas Silva responded with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 12 rebounds. Brasilia (1-3) left bottom position moving up to sixteenth place, which they share with Vasco da Gama. It was Sao Jose's fifth loss in a row. They still close the standings with five games lost. Brasilia will meet at home higher ranked Mogi (#8) in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Sao Jose will have a break next round.

Rest of the games of round 4 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
winless Sao Jose was crushed by Minas in Belo Horizonte 91-64. Vasco da Gama was beaten by Pinheiros at home 62-65. Cearense was destroyed by Pato on the opponent's court 89-60. Botafogo unfortunately lost to Corinthians in a home game 58-73.
The best stats of 4th round was 16 points and 11 rebounds by Daniel Von Haydin of Brasilia.




Minas - Sao Jose 91-64

There was no surprise in Belo Horizonte where bottom-ranked Sao Jose (0-5) was crushed by fifth ranked Minas (3-1) 91-64 on Monday. Worth to mention a great performance of Argentinian guard Juan Arengo (185-1996) who helped to win the game recording 20 points and Dominican Luis Montero (203-1993, college: South Plains) who added 13 points during the contest. Minas' coach Leonardo Costa felt very confident that he used entire bench saving starting five for next games. At the losing side Douglas Silva (202-1998) responded with 11 points and 8 rebounds and power forward Renato Carbonari (202-1987) scored 12 points. Minas moved-up to third place. Loser Sao Jose still closes the standings with five games lost. Minas will meet at home Mogi (#8) in the next round where they are favorite. Sao Jose will have a break next round.

No shocking result in a game in Rio de Janeiro where thirteenth ranked Pinheiros (2-1) edged 15th ranked Vasco da Gama (1-3) 65-62 on Monday. Worth to mention a great performance of forward Bernardo Da Silva (206-2000, college: Hawaii) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds and guard Reynan Dos Santos (192-2004) who added 14 points and 8 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side Rafael Paulichi (202-1998) responded with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 13 rebounds and the former international forward Marquinhos Vieira (205-1984) scored 13 points. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Pinheiros moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Sesi/Franca and Botafogo. Newly promoted Vasco da Gama dropped to the sixteenth position with three games lost. They share it with Brasilia. Pinheiros will meet league's leader Flamengo in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Vasco da Gama will have a break next round.

There was a minor upset in Pato Branco where 11th ranked Fortaleza (1-2) was rolled over by fourteenth ranked Pato (2-2) 89-60 on Tuesday. Pato outrebounded Cearense 38-24 including a 29-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of American swingman Austin Wrighten (192-1996, college: Lynchburg) who helped to win the game recording 19 points and Venezuelan swingman Jose Materan (198-1996) who added 16 points and 7 rebounds during the contest. Wrighten is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Pato players scored in double figures. Pato's coach felt very confident that he used 10 players saving starting five for next games. At the losing side guard Leonardo Abreu (188-2002) responded with 14 points and swingman Anderson Barbosa (192-2000) scored 7 points and 10 rebounds. Pato moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Corinthians and Mogi. Loser Fortaleza dropped to the fourteenth position with two games lost. They share it with Caxias do Sul. Pato will meet at home UniFacisa (#10) in the next round. Cearense will have a break next round.

Both coaches tested many bench players saving starting five for next games. Corinthians moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Mogi and Pato.
