Fernandes' double-double lands him Player of the Week award

19-year old guard Fernando Fernandes (196-G-2005) put on an amazing game in the last round for Minas Belo Horizonte and receives a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 7.
He had a double-double of 27 points and 14 rebounds, while his team beat Sorocabana 2 (3-4) 71-57. The game was between two of the league's top four teams. Minas is placed at 3rd position in Brazilian league. Minas is a typical solid league team placed somewhere in the middle or a little bit lower in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 3-4 record. In the team's last game Fernandes had a remarkable 54.5% from 2-point range. He turned to be Minas' top player in his first season with the team. Fernandes has impressive league stats. He is in league's top in points (4th best: 13.8ppg), rebounds (2nd best: 9.0rpg) and averages solid 2.0bpg and 52.6% FGP.

Second best performed player last round was Gabriel Mendes (206-C-1996) of Esporte Clube Vitoria Basquete. He is a center in his first season at Vitoria. In the last game Mendes recorded an impressive double-double of 19 points and 14 rebounds. It was enough for Vitoria to edge slightly higher-ranked Pinheiros 2 (#5, 2-4) by 6 points 76-70. Despite this victory they still are the lowest ranked team. 5 lost games are too many comparing to just one victory Vitoria managed to get this year. Mendes is one of the most experienced players at Vitoria and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players.

Third place about best performers goes to another Minas' star - guard Lucas Nakazawa (180-G-2005). Nakazawa scored 18 points and passed 6 assists. He was another key player of Minas Tenis Clube Belo Horizonte 2nd team, helping his team with a 71-57 easy win against #4 ranked Sorocabana 2 in a game of the week. The chances of Minas ranking at the top of the league, however are very questionable as they have already lost 4 games, recording just three victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Nakazawa could help Minas to bring them higher in the standings. Nakazawa has a great season in Brazil. After only 7 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 12.4ppg (7th best), rebounds with 6.0rpg (9th best) and assists with 5.1apg (3rd best).
