LBF Round 9 (Regular Season): Ourinhos lose to Campinas in the biggest upset of the week

Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

The most shocking disappointment of round 9 was a road defeat of 4th placed Ourinhos (6-3) by seventh ranked Campinas (5-4) who outscored them by 15 points 69-54. It ended the two-game winning streak of Ourinhos. Campinas forced 24 Ourinhos turnovers. The former international Izabella Sangalli (182-1995) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 13 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners and forward Aline Cristina (180-1992) chipped in 10 points and 10 rebounds. The best for the losing side was guard Maisa Marcal (178-2000, college: GCU) with 20 points and 6 rebounds. Campinas moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Sao Jose and Mesquita. Ourinhos at the other side keeps the fourth position with three games lost. Campinas is looking forward to face Maringa (#10) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Ourinhos will play against Corinthians (#3) in Vila Medon and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Forward Sil Gustavo (181-1982) came up with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 12 rebounds for Blumenau in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Campinas moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Sao Jose and Mesquita. Blumenau at the other side still closes the standings with nine games lost. Campinas will play against Maringa (#10) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Blumenau will play against the league's leader Sampaio and hopes to get finally their first victory.

At the other side the best for losing team was Maite Pereira who recorded a double-double by scoring 14 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists. Cerrado maintains eighth place with 3-7 record. Loser Blumenau still closes the standings with nine games lost. Cerrado will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Blumenau will play against the league's leader Sampaio (#1) where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.

There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 9: Maringa was destroyed by Sao Jose on the opponent's court 91-71. Corinthians outscored Maringa in a home game 81-41. Santo Andre was rolled over Mesquita on the road 89-65.

Very expected game when 10th ranked Maringa (1-8) was crushed on the road by fifth ranked Sao Jose (5-4) 91-71 on Saturday. Sao Jose forced 19 Maringa turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. The best player for the winners was Colombian guard Manuela Rios (163-1997) who had a double-double by scoring 16 points, 13 assists and 7 steals. Forward Mayara Marins (175-1997) chipped in 23 points and 6 rebounds. Four Sao Jose players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was forward Thailane Monteiro (185-2000) who recorded 24 points and 7 rebounds and guard Geovana Neves (170-2002) added 17 points and 8 assists respectively. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Sao Jose maintains fifth place with 5-4 record, which they share with Mesquita and Campinas. Maringa lost eighth consecutive game. They keep the tenth position with eight games lost. Sao Jose will meet Santo Andre (#9) on the road in the next round. Maringa will play against Campinas and hope to win that game.

Very predictable result in Vila Medon where third ranked Corinthians (7-2) smashed 10th ranked Maringa (1-8) 81-41 on Monday. Corinthians held Maringa to an opponent 20.7 percent shooting from the field compared to 50.8 percent accuracy of the winners. Corinthians looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Maringa's players. The best player for the winners was the former international guard Beatriz Oliveira (169-1995) who scored 9 points, 6 rebounds and 11 assists. Swingman Ariadna Felipe (180-1983) chipped in 5 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was forward Thailane Monteiro (185-2000) who recorded a double-double by scoring 10 points and 10 rebounds and guard Janaina Nonato (170-2000) added 6 points respectively.
