Paulista Round 5 (Regular Season): Mogi beat Paulistano by three after a very close game

Paulista is at the halfway of the Regular Season and there are still another 5 rounds left. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most exciting game of round 5 in the Paulista took place in Sao Paulo. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of second-ranked Paulistano (4-2) to sixth ranked Mogi (3-2) 61-58 on Wednesday evening. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Paulistano. Guard Raffael Mencarini (187-2001) orchestrated the victory by scoring 22 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Guard Paulo Da Costa (194-1994) contributed with 7 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Power forward Leandro Inacio (203-2004) answered with 12 points and 7 rebounds for Paulistano. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Mogi moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Bauru. Paulistano at the other side dropped to the fourth position with two games lost. Mogi is looking forward to face Rio Claro (#9) on the road in the next round. Paulistano will have a break next round.
Paulista top team - Corinthians (5-0) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed seventh ranked Rio Claro (2-4) in Sao Paulo 103-83. Forward Kauan Raymundo (201-2005, college: NW Florida St.) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) for the winners and Elio Corazza chipped in 9 points and 12 assists. Guard Gemadinha Sacco (182-1997) responded with 13 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Undefeated Corinthians have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain first place with 5-0 record. Rio Claro at the other side keeps the seventh position with four games lost. They share it with Pinheiros and Sorocabana. Corinthians will play against Sorocabana (#8) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Rio Claro will play against Mogi and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Matheus Eugeniusz nailed 21 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists for the winning side. Pedro Leopoldino came up with 8 points and 7 rebounds for Mandic Basket in the defeat. Mandic Basket's coach Telmo Oliveira gave up on the game allowing to play eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Bauru maintains fifth place with 3-2 record, which they share with Mogi. Mandic Basket lost their sixth game in a row. They still close the standings with six games lost. Bauru will meet higher ranked Sesi/Franca (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Mandic Basket will play against Osasco (#10) and hopes to get finally their first victory.

In the last two games of round 5 Osasco was beaten by Sao Jose on the road 78-72. Pinheiros lost to Sorocabana on its own court 58-65.



Bauru - Mandic Basket 75-40

Bottom-ranked Mandic Basket is still unable to win any game. This time they lost on the road their sixth consecutive match to fifth ranked Paschoalotto/Bauru (3-2) 75-40 on Tuesday evening. Bauru forced 21 Mandic Basket turnovers and outrebounded them 44-29 including 31 on the defensive glass. Bauru looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists comparing to just 6 passes made by Mandic Basket's players. Guard Matheus Eugeniusz (193-2000) nailed 21 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists for the winning side and Mogi Alves (198-1996) accounted for 9 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists. Center Pedro Leopoldino (206-1998) came up with 8 points and 7 rebounds and American guard Stan Scott (193-1998, college: MSSU) added 8 points respectively for Mandic Basket in the defeat. Sao Jose - Osasco 78-72

No shocking result in a game when fourth ranked Sao Jose (4-1) beat at home 9th ranked Osasco (1-4) 78-72 on Tuesday. However just six-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Sao Jose forced 19 Osasco turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The former international guard Adyel Borges (190-2002) nailed 20 points and 4 assists for the winning side and the former international center Maique Tavares (211-1993) accounted for 18 points and 5 rebounds. Sao Jose's coach Regis Marrelli used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Matheus Weber (194-2000) came up with 21 points and 8 assists and the former international center Hatila Passos (211-1985, college: NM State) added 13 points and 12 rebounds (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) respectively for Osasco in the defeat. Sao Jose moved-up to second place, which they share with Sesi/Franca. Loser Osasco dropped to the tenth position with four games lost. Sao Jose will meet Pinheiros (#7) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Osasco will play against Mandic Basket in Limeira and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

There was a minor upset when 7th ranked Pinheiros (2-4) lost to ninth ranked Sorocabana (2-4) in Sao Paulo 58-65 on Tuesday. Sorocabana dominated down low during the game scoring 42 of its points in the paint compared to Pinheiros' 16. They outrebounded Pinheiros 35-15 including a 26-11 advantage in defensive rebounds. Danilo Penteado (199-1999) nailed 17 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side and Nathan Goncalves accounted for 14 points and 8 rebounds. Sorocabana's coach Miguel Palmier used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Forward Anthony Goerino (204-2006) came up with 15 points and point guard Felipe Gregate (188-2003) added 7 points and 5 assists respectively for Pinheiros in the defeat. Sorocabana moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Pinheiros and Rio Claro. Pinheiros lost their third game in a row. Sorocabana will meet at home league's leader Corinthians in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Pinheiros will play against the league's second-placed Sao Jose (#2) and will have a slim chance for a victory.
