The most surprising game was the first loss of Vivo/Franca (4-1) on the court of ninth ranked Osasco on Saturday night. Visitors were defeated by Osasco 77-66. Osasco dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Vivo/Franca's 28. Osasco looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. At the losing side point guard Joao Machini (171-2004) responded with 19 points and 5 rebounds. Vivo/Franca's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Osasco are looking forward to face league's second-placed Sao Jose on the road in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Sesi/Franca will have a break next round.
Eleventh-ranked Mandic Basket (0-6) gave a tough game to top-ranked Corinthians (5-0) in Limeira. The visitors from Sao Paulo managed to secure only three-point victory 77-74. However their fans expected much easier game. The winners were led by American guard Davaunta Thomas (196-1995, college: UAFS) who scored that evening 25 points and 7 rebounds and Victao Camilo supported him with 13 points and 9 rebounds. Undefeated Corinthians have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 5-0 record. Mandic Basket at the other side still closes the standings with six games lost. Corinthians will play against Rio Claro (#9) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Mandic Basket will play against Bauru and hopes to get finally their first victory.
