It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Corinthians. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Sesi/Franca looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. The former international center Cristiano Felicio (210-1992, college: Oregon) fired 21 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists (made all of his seven free throws) for the winners. The former international guard Paulo Barbosa (189-2003) chipped in 25 points. The former international point guard Elio Corazza (195-1989, college: Miami Dade CC) produced a double-double by scoring 11 points, 6 rebounds and 10 assists for lost side. Vivo/Franca have a solid series of three victories in a row. Sesi/Franca keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Corinthians and Sao Jose. Corinthians will play next round against Mogi trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Sesi/Franca will try to continue on its current victory against ninth ranked Pinheiros. It will be extra interesting game as Pinheiros is their local rival from Sao Paulo.
An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Sao Jose. Third ranked Sao Jose faced 4th placed Paulistano. Host Sao Jose (6-1) defeated guests from Sao Paulo (4-3) 74-64. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international guard Adyel Borges (190-2002) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 10 points, 14 rebounds and 8 assists. Caue Freitas contributed with 9 points and 8 assists for the winners. American guard Kaleb Hunter (193-1998, college: UNCG) answered with 13 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists for Paulistano. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Sao Jose have a solid series of four victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Sesi/Franca and Corinthians. Paulistano at the other side keeps the fourth place with three games lost. They share the position with Bauru and Mogi. Sao Jose will play against Bauru (#6) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Paulistano will play against Osasco and hopes to get back on the winning track.
Bottom-ranked Mandic Basket (0-8) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 87-61 loss to sixth ranked Mogi (4-3) in Mogi das Cruzes on Monday evening. It was a great evening for Paulo Da Costa who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 14 points, 13 rebounds and 6 assists. At the losing side Arthur Abreu responded with 12 points and 6 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Mogi moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Bauru and Paulistano. Loser Mandic Basket still closes the standings with eight games lost. Mogi will meet higher ranked Corinthians (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Mandic Basket will play against Sorocabana (#10) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
