NBB Round 1 (Regular Season): Vasco lose to Cearense

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Vasco in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday night. Hosts were defeated by Fortaleza 88-78. Cearense made 22-of-25 free shots (88.0 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Minas' coach Leonardo Costa allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. American guard Davaunta Thomas (196-1995, college: UAFS) came up with 21 points and 5 rebounds for Corinthians in the defeat. Minas will play against Mogi in Mogi das Cruzes in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Corinthians will play on the road against Cruzeiro and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 1: Sao Jose destroyed Cruzeiro on the opponent's court 85-62. Winless Bauru lost to undefeated Flamengo in a home game 86-102. Pinheiros managed to beat Rio Claro on the road 88-86. Osasco lost to Sesi/Franca on its own court 60-105. Bauru lost to Paulistano in Sao Paulo 59-66. Botafogo lost to Cearense at home 80-84.
