This derby game ended with only two-point home defeat of 5th ranked Mogi (3-2) to top-ranked Flamengo (6-0) 69-67 on Monday evening. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Mogi. Flamengo made 18-of-22 free shots (81.8 percent) during the game. The best player for the winners was the former international point guard Alexey Borges (185-1995) who scored 12 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. chipped in 16 points. At the other side the best for losing team was point guard Gabriel Campos (181-2001) who recorded 19 points and 7 assists. Mogi's coach Fernando Penna rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Undefeated Flamengo have an impressive six-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 6-0 record, which they share with Minas. Mogi at the other side dropped to the eighth place with two games lost. They share the position with Corinthians. Flamengo is looking forward to face Osasco (#16) on the road in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Mogi will play against UniFacisa (#7) in Paraiba and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Belo Horizonte. Top-ranked Minas faced 3rd ranked Vivo/Franca. Host Minas (6-0) defeated guests from Sao Paulo (4-2) 86-70. It was a good game for American swingman Jordan Williams (196-1992, college: N.Texas) who led his team to a victory with 16 points and 6 rebounds. Erik McCree contributed with 12 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Minas' coach Leonardo Costa allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. International center Lucas Dias (207-1995) replied with 15 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists for Sesi/Franca. Undefeated Minas have an impressive six-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Flamengo. Sesi/Franca at the other side dropped to the fourth place with two games lost. Minas will play against Rio Claro (#18) on the road in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Sesi/Franca will play against Cruzeiro (#14) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
Pato can celebrate finally their first win this season after four consecutive losses. The victory is especially important as it came on the road game in Rio de Janeiro, where they defeated Vasco (0-7) 70-65 on Tuesday. Tradavis Thompson scored 18 points to lead the charge for the winners. Pato's coach Andre Soares used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. The best for the losing side was Pedro Nunes with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds. Pato (1-4) left bottom position moving up to sixteenth place, which they share with Osasco and Rio Claro. It was Vasco's seventh loss in a row. They still close the standings with seven games lost. Pato will meet Botafogo (#19) in the next round. Vasco will have a break next round.
