Brazilian NBB round 26 best performance: Fernando Salsamendi

Fernando Salsamendi (193-SF-1996) had an amazing evening in the last round for Fortaleza B.C. Cearense, receiving a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 26.
The 29-year old player was the main contributor (17 points, four rebounds and six assists) to his team's victory, helping them to edge out Botafogo (#19, 3-19) 86-82. The game rather meaningless between the teams, which do not have any influence on top of the standings. Fortaleza is placed at 16th position in Brazilian NBB. Too late to salvage the team, which is currently ranked such low. They already lost 17 games and recorded just five victories. In the team's last game Salsamendi had a remarkable 62.5% from 2-point range. He has many years of experience at Fortaleza, through which he has constantly improved. Fernando Salsamendi averages this season 9.1ppg and 5.4rpg.

The second best player in last round's games was young Caue De Freitas (192-G-1988) of Coop/Sao Jose Basketball. De Freitas had a very good evening with a double-double of 16 points and 10 assists. Of course Sao Jose cruised to a 98-91 relatively comfortable win over the lower-ranked Cruzeiro (#14, 7-15). Sao Jose's 7th position in the standings has not changed. His team lost some distance to top teams. But a 14-8 record is not bad and everything may still change. De Freitas is a newcomer at Sao Jose and despite he is not a team leader yet, every game he becomes more reliable player. Hopefully performances like the last one will happen more often.

Third on the list of top players last round was Argentinian guard Facundo Corvalan (190-PG-1998) of BRB/Brasilia (#5). Corvalan scored 18 points and passed 6 assists. He was a key player of Brasilia, leading his team to a 96-64 easy win against the lower-ranked Osasco (#18, 4-18). Brasilia needs these victories very badly if they think about getting closer to top teams. Their record at this point is 17 victories and 6 lost games. Corvalan has a very solid season. In 23 games in Brazil he scored 14.9ppg.
