NBB Round 27 (Regular Season): U.Corinthians edge Sesi/Franca by three points

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most exciting game of round 27 in the NBB took place in Santa Cruz do Sul. This derby game ended with only three-point defeat on the road of second-best Vivo/Franca (18-4) to twelfth ranked U.Corinthians (11-10) 98-95 on Monday evening. It was quite big embarassment for the guest team. It ended at the same time the 12-game winning streak of Vivo/Franca. U.Corinthians looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when U.Corinthians made 7 blocks. The best player for the winners was American Jeremy Hollowell (203-1994, college: Georgia St., agency: BIG) who had a double-double by scoring 21 points, 5 rebounds and 10 assists. Colombian point guard Juan Cardenas (201-1997, college: Bryant) chipped in 20 points and 6 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field). At the other side the best for losing team was the former international point guard Georginho de Paula (197-1996) who recorded a double-double by scoring 31 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists. U.Corinthians maintains twelfth place with 11-10 record. Sesi/Franca at the other side keeps the second position with four games lost. They share it with Minas and Pinheiros. U.Corinthians are looking forward to face higher ranked Bauru (#10) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Sesi/Franca will play against Caxias do Sul (#13) and is hoping to win this game.
Important game to mention about took place in Sao Paulo. Eighth ranked Paulistano (13-9) saved a 2-point victory at home edging 5th ranked Brasilia (17-6) 83-81 on Monday evening. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Brasilia. It was a good game for American guard Kaleb Hunter (193-1998, college: UNCG) who led his team to a victory with 24 points and 6 rebounds. Lucas Siewert contributed with 15 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Paulistano's coach Demetrius Ferraciu allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Rafael Paulichi (202-1998) answered with 24 points and 5 rebounds for Brasilia. Paulistano maintains eighth place with 13-9 record. Brasilia at the other side keeps the fifth position with six games lost. Paulistano will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Brasilia will play on the road against Pinheiros (#4) in Sao Paulo and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
The game in Sao Jose was also quite interesting. Fourth ranked Minas (18-4) played at the court of 7th ranked Sao Jose (14-8). Minas managed to secure a 4-point victory 95-91 on Monday. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Sao Jose. It was a great evening for Ricardo Fischer who led his team to a victory scoring 23 points. The best for the losing side was Anderson Rodrigues with 17 points and 5 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Minas moved-up to second place, which they share with Sesi/Franca and Pinheiros. Loser Sao Jose keeps the seventh position with eight games lost. Minas will meet at home Pato (#15) in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Sao Jose will play against Botafogo (#19) in Rio de Janeiro and hope to secure a win.

Other games of round 27 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
Bauru defeated Caxias do Sul in a road game 74-73. Botafogo was beaten by Corinthians at home 73-74. Pato lost to Cruzeiro on the opponent's court 81-89.

Forward Alexandre Paranhos (204-1992) helped adding 21 points and 5 rebounds. The best for the losing side was Anderson Rodrigues (207-1997) with 17 points and 5 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) and Leonardo Cravero (201-2002) scored 11 points and 8 rebounds. There was no surprise when 13th ranked Caxias do Sul (10-12) was edged at home by eleventh ranked Paschoalotto/Bauru (12-11) 74-73 on Monday. It was a great evening for center Andrezao Barbosa de Abreu (213-2002) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 13 rebounds. Venezuelan swingman Jose Materan (198-1996) helped adding 19 points and 6 rebounds. The best for the losing side was the former international guard Humberto Silva (196-1995) with 18 points and 6 rebounds and Paraguayan point guard Fabrizzio Ruiz (187-2002) scored 15 points. Bauru moved-up to tenth place. Loser Caxias do Sul keeps the thirteenth position with 12 games lost. Bauru will meet U.Corinthians (#12) in the next round. Caxias do Sul will play against the league's second-placed Sesi/Franca where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.

It was a great evening for American guard Elyjah Clark (191-1998, college: MSSU) who led his team to a victory scoring 19 points and 5 assists. The former international Lucas Caue (206-1998) helped adding 9 points and 9 rebounds. The best for the losing side was point guard Matheusinho Brito (183-2000) with 22 points and 5 assists and forward Paulo Scheuer (200-1999) scored 16 points and 8 rebounds. Botafogo's coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Corinthians maintains sixth place with 16-8 record. Botafogo lost eleventh consecutive game. They keep the nineteenth position with 19 games lost. They share it with Vasco. Corinthians will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Botafogo will play against Sao Jose (#7) and hope to secure a win.

Cruzeiro maintains fourteenth place with 7-15 record. Pato lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the fifteenth position with 17 games lost. They share it with Cearense. Cruzeiro will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game.
