NBB Round 29 (Regular Season): Pato cruise past Flamengo

Round 29 most important game was a defeat of league's leader Flamengo (20-4). They were crushed by seventeenth ranked Pato (6-19) 84-53 on Wednesday night. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Flamengo. Pato dominated down low during the game scoring 44 of its points in the paint compared to Flamengo's 16. Pato forced 19 Flamengo turnovers and outrebounded them 49-31 including a 33-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. American forward Raekwon Horton (198-2002, college: UTSA) stepped up and scored 15 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and power forward Edu Elevi (207-2001) chipped in 11 points and 12 rebounds. American guard Shaquille Johnson (191-1990, college: Marshall) responded with 14 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Pato moved-up to sixteenth place. Flamengo at the other side still keeps top position with four games lost. They were joined at the leadership position by Pinheiros who have the same record. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

The former international point guard Georginho de Paula (197-1996) came up with 24 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists for Sesi/Franca in the defeat. Paulistano have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain eighth place with 14-9 record. Sesi/Franca at the other side dropped to the fourth position with five games lost. Paulistano will play against Osasco (#19) at home in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Sesi/Franca will have a break next round.

There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 29: Caxias do Sul lost to Rio Claro on the opponent's court 73-79. Brasilia outscored U.Corinthians in a home game 89-64. Cearense recorded a loss to Sao Jose on the road 97-82. Osasco was crushed by Pinheiros on its own court 73-95.

Anderson Rodrigues (207-1997) chipped in 18 points and 7 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field).
