NBB Round 32 (Regular Season): Pinheiros lose the game and top position

Coincidentally all hosts won their games. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

Round 32 most important game was a defeat of league's leader Pinheiros (21-5). They were defeated by twelfth ranked U.Corinthians (13-13) 77-70 on Friday night. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Pinheiros. U.Corinthians made 25-of-31 free shots (80.6 percent) during the game. U.Corinthians had a 31-20 advantage in offensive rebounds. 28 personal fouls committed by Pinheiros helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of Colombian point guard Juan Cardenas (201-1997, college: Bryant) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds and American Jeremy Hollowell (203-1994, college: Georgia St., agency: BIG) who added 16 points and 7 rebounds during the contest. The former international Betinho Nardi (195-1988) responded with 17 points. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. U.Corinthians moved-up to eleventh place, which they share with UniFacisa. Pinheiros at the other side dropped to the second position with five games lost. They share it with Sesi/Franca. They were replaced at the leadership position by Flamengo. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

The winners were led by Argentinian point guard Franco Baralle (182-1999) who scored that evening 15 points and 5 assists and Guilherme Deodato supported him with 16 points and 5 rebounds. Even 22 points and 6 rebounds by the former international guard Adyel Borges (190-2002) did not help to save the game for Sao Jose. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. As mentioned above they took over a top position. Sao Jose at the other side keeps the seventh place with ten games lost. Sao Jose will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest in order to get back on the winning path. Flamengo will try to continue on its current victory against fourteenth ranked Rio Claro on the road.

Sesi/Franca moved-up to second place, which they share with Pinheiros. Loser Minas dropped to the fourth position with six games lost. Sesi/Franca will meet Botafogo (#17) in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Minas will play against Brasilia (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

There were no shocking results in the other games in round 32: Botafogo was destroyed by Pato on the opponent's court 93-67. Caxias do Sul managed to outperform Paulistano in a home game 80-73. Cruzeiro was rolled over Sesi/Franca on the road 95-67.



Pato - Botafogo 93-67

The game between closely ranked teams ended with 17th ranked Botafogo's (5-20) road loss to sixteenth ranked Pato (7-19) 67-93 on Thursday. The best player for the winners was Danilo Penteado (199-1999) who scored 18 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. American forward Raekwon Horton (198-2002, college: UTSA) chipped in 17 points. Four Pato players scored in double figures. Derick Machado (198-1996) produced 26 points and 8 rebounds and forward Paulo Scheuer (200-1999) added 14 points respectively for the guests. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Pato maintains sixteenth position with 7-19 record. Loser Botafogo keeps the seventeenth place with 20 games lost. Pato will meet Cearense (#18) in the next round. Botafogo will play against the league's second-placed Sesi/Franca and will have a slim chance for a victory.
