The game between second ranked Flamengo (22-6) and ninth ranked Paschoalotto/Bauru (17-12) was the most important one in the last round on Saturday night. Flamengo was defeated by Paschoalotto/Bauru in Rio de Janeiro 79-92. Bauru made 27-of-33 free shots (81.8 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. 26 personal fouls committed by Flamengo helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Guard Matheus Eugeniusz (193-2000) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 13 points, 7 rebounds and 11 assists. Center Andrezao Barbosa de Abreu (213-2002) contributed with 18 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Argentinian forward Alex Negrete (192-2001) answered with 19 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists for Flamengo. Flamengo's coach Sergio Hernandez rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Paschoalotto/Bauru have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Sao Jose. Flamengo at the other side dropped to the third position with six games lost. Bauru is looking forward to face Cearense (#17) in Fortaleza in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Flamengo will have a break next round.
Worth to mention about the upset in a game between Minas (21-7) and Paulistano (17-11), which took place in Sao Paulo. 4th placed Minas was outleveled in a road game by ninth ranked Paulistano 104-83. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Minas. It was a great evening for American guard Kaleb Hunter (193-1998, college: UNCG) who led his team to a victory scoring 27 points. Guilherme Abreu helped adding 14 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. American forward Erik McCree (202-1993, college: La Tech) responded with 17 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Paulistano moved-up to seventh place. Minas at the other side keeps the fourth position with seven games lost. Paulistano will play against UniFacisa (#12) in Paraiba in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Minas will have a break next round.
Another upset was a game between Sao Jose (17-12) and Mogi (15-12), which took place in Mogi das Cruzes. 7th ranked Sao Jose lost to tenth ranked Mogi in a road game 68-78 on Sunday.
