The most exciting game of round 47 in the NBB took place in Sao Jose. This derby game ended with only one-point defeat on the road of second-ranked Pinheiros (29-8) to ninth ranked Sao Jose (21-15) 76-75 on Friday evening. It was quite big embarassment for the guest team. Sao Jose shot 23 for 36 from the free-throw line, while Pinheiros only scored seven points from the stripe. Sao Jose forced 22 Pinheiros turnovers. 25 personal fouls committed by Pinheiros helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a great evening for the former international guard Adyel Borges (190-2002) who led his team to a victory scoring 35 points (!!!), 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Leonardo Cravero (201-2002) helped adding 9 points and 6 rebounds. American point guard David Sloan (183-1999, college: ETSU) responded with 11 points and 9 assists. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Sao Jose moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Bauru. Pinheiros at the other side keeps the second position with eight games lost. Sao Jose is looking forward to face Caxias do Sul (#13) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Pinheiros will have a break next round.
Very important is a home loss of third ranked Minas (28-9) against eleventh ranked UNIFACISA (19-18) on Sunday night. Host Minas was edged by UNIFACISA in a tough game in Belo Horizonte 77-80. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Minas. It was an exceptional evening for the former international point guard Henrique Coelho (184-1993) who led the winners and scored 14 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists. Melvin Johnson accounted for 22 points. International forward Winicius Braga (204-2005) came up with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 12 rebounds for Minas in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. UniFacisa maintains eleventh place with 19-18 record. Minas at the other side keeps the third position with nine games lost. UniFacisa will play against Cruzeiro (#14) on the road in the next round. Minas will play against Cearense (#17) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
Bottom-ranked Osasco managed to get a sixth victory, breaking the series of four consecutive losses on Saturday night. This time they won against seventeenth-ranked Pato 77-68. The best player for the winners was Anthony Harris who scored 36 points (!!!) and 4 assists. Grigor Batista produced 14 points and 9 rebounds for the guests. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Osasco (6-31) moved-up to nineteenth place. Pato lost tenth consecutive game. They keep the seventeenth position with 29 games lost. They share it with Cearense. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 47: Mogi won against U.Corinthians on the opponent's court 87-82. Vasco unfortunately lost to Cruzeiro in a home game 72-89. Flamengo managed to beat Botafogo on the road 102-89. Rio Claro was defeated by Sesi/Franca on its own court 82-92.
