Eral Penn
Sophomore Eral Penn (201-F) the first start of his collegiate career as the The LIU Brooklyn men's basketball team put on a dominating performance in the Steinberg Wellness Center Saturday afternoon, beating Sacred Heart in a big Northeast Conference game, 92-84. The Blackbirds had nine different players score in the win with Penn contributing seven points and five rebounds. LIU moves to 12-14 overall, and 6-8 in the NEC. Up next for the Blackbirds is a swing through the PA contingent of the NEC. LIU will take on Robert Morris, Thursday, Feb. 21 and Saint Francis U., Saturday, February 23.

In a back and forth game at AJ Gymnasium, Franklyn Penn Jr. (190-G-97) and Panola was able to hold off #20 Trinity Valley 70-69. Panola found themselves down by as many as 8 points in the first half before cutting it to 34-33 at the halftime break. The second half featured many lead changes as neither team would have a lead larger than 6. Penn scored six points, seven rebounds and four assists. The win puts Panola at 20-7 (10-5 Region XIV) going into their last bye of the season. The second place Ponies resume play next Saturday, February 23 at Bossier Parish.
Earlier in the week, Panola found themselves in a huge hole Wednesday night at home vs Paris. Paris got off to a quick start and was up 44-23 with 4:22 left. Panola was able to make a good run to cut the lead to 50-43 at half. The Ponies found themselves down double digits again in the 2nd but started to chip away. A season high 17 3 point field goals made helped the Ponies pull out the 98-91 win. Penn finished with eight points and two rebounds.

LORETTO, Pa. - Eral Penn (201-F) and the LIU Brooklyn men's basketball team closed an 18-point gap down to just five points in the second half, but it wasn't enough, as top-seeded Saint Francis U. beat the Blackbirds to advance to the Northeast Conference championship game, 72-64. D'Moi Hodge (193-G) who had 20 of his game-high 27 in the first half, but SCF Manatees fell to 18th ranked Eastern Florida, 77-71, Thursday night in the quarterfinals of the state tournament. Eral Penn (201-F) and the No. 6-seeded LIU Brooklyn men's basketball team (16-15) had a big team effort in the Pitt Center Wednesday night, rallying to upset the No. 3 seeded Sacred Heart Pioneers, 71-62.
