Puerto Rico - Jamaica 104-71
The host of CAC Games registered another win in Mayaguez. After 77-62 victory against Mexico in Day One, Puerto Ricans blasted Jamaica with huge 104-71. Of course, they already secured the first place in Group E, while Jamaica dropped to 0-2. NBAer Jose Juan Barea (181-G-84, college: Northeastern) shined for the hosts with 27 points. After opening ten minutes they already held comfortable 29-15 lead. However, Jamaicans woke up in the second frame and replied with 18-23. The hosts were still up and they resolved question about the winner very soon. Few minutes after the breather, Jose Juan Barea and his teammates already reached plus 15 and later they jumped to 20-point lead. Jamaica had no chance and Puerto Rico continued in the same rhythm making 28-17 in the last ten minutes for the final 107-71 blowout. Puerto Rico will have a day-off on Tuesday. Jamaica will meet Mexico in do-or-die game for both teams.
Group F
British Virgin Islands - Panama 50-80
It was the first appearance for Panama in Mayaguez and they registered comfortable victory. Panamanians jumped to 1-0 in Group F, while their rivals dropped to 0-2. They faced with defeat in Day One as well. Ryan Abrahams (191-G-81, college: Hawaii-Hilo) stepped up for the winners with 19 points. Joel Munoz (179-G-80) had 17 points, while Josimar Ayarza (203-F-87) added 16 points and 5 boards. (196-F-78, college: Henderson St.) stopped on 11 pts and 6 rebs. Panama opened the game in style making 3-13 lead. IVB slightly improved after that, but was not able to avoid 11-20 deficit at the end of Q1. They had big troubles during the next ten minutes as well, thus Panama jumped to impressive 20-39 HT lead. Nothing has changed after the breather. Panama still was the team who dominated and they finished Q3 with 16-25. Question about the winner was resolved and last period was just the formality. In Day Three, Panama will play against the U.S. Virgin Islands. IVB will have a day off.
U.S. Virgin Islands - Dominican Republic 98-103
Dominicans were better than the U.S. Virgins Islands for the second straight win in Mayaguez. It means that Dominican Republic is currently the leading team of Group F with the perfect 2-0 record. ISV dropped to 0-1 as they appeared for the first time at this event. Jack Michael Martinez (203-F/C-81, agency: Paris Global Sports) exploded for Dominicans with 32 points and 12 rebounds. He was the MVP of this meeting with valuation 31. Kelvin Pena (193-G-80, college: Southeastern CC) and Cristian Arias (191-G-81) helped with 23 and 21 points respectively. (194-F-82, college: USF) added 17 points and 7 boards. Everything started good for ISV, who made quick 12-4 lead in the first five minutes. Dominicans were not able to resist in Q1 and faced with 19-11 deficit. Both teams were great offensively in the second frame, but still it was ISV who was better and finished it with 34-31. It means that ISV held nice 11-point lead at the HT. Third quarter belonged to Dominicans 27-28, but they needed a way more. ISV somehow stopped after that and scored only six points for the entire last quarter. Jack Michael Martinez and his teammates drained 16 on the other side for the final 98-103 victory and 2-0 in Mayaguez.
