The basketball action heated up on Cayman Islands these days. CIBA National Womens League tipped off with five teams on board. The defending champions Dominos Lady Heels, the Esso Blazettes, the Quick Cash Storm, the Wellys Cool Spot and the Silver Bullets hit the road in the exciting competition.
The teams got to action as the reigning champions Dominos Lady Heels faced Wellys Cool Spot. The championship was ready for the big time surprise in the opener already as the Wellys Cool Spot kept the lead throughout the major part of the encounter. However Sarrah Kidd stepped up for the Lady Heels as they pulled a tough 59:54 win at the end. Sarrah Kidd finished with 26 points, 7 boards and 6 steals. Benieca Thompson added 11 points and 16 boards for the winners. Cassiane Lawrence secured 18 points, 11 boards and 8 steals in defeat.
The Storm Quick Cash bruised the Esso Blazettes 59:40 in the second game of the first round. The Storm piled up a 12-point halftime lead and never looked back again. Merta Day led the action with 22 points, 9 boards and 7 steals for the Storm. Bobeth OGarro added 12 points and 9 steals in the victory. Theresa Hamil had 12 points and 9 boards for the Esso Blazettes in the losing case.
