The Storm Quick Cash were crowned the new CIBA champions yesterday. They defeated the previous champs Dominos Lady Heels 58:48 in the Grand Final to clinch the title.
The Storm Quick Cash scored a comprehensive victory over Wellys Cool Spot 57:39 in the semifinal. The Cool Spot kept the intrigue alive in the opening frame as they trailed by just two points at the end of the quarter. But the Storm Quick Cash shifted the gear in the second period and ran away to the win in the reminder of the contest. Lavern Ebanks scored 19 points and pulled down 10 boards to lead the Quick Cash. Bobeth O'Garro added 14 points for the winners. Letanya Thompson had 15 points and 8 boards for the Wellys Cool Spot.
The Dominos Lady Heels overcame the Esso Blazettes 57:54 to reach the finals. The Esso Blazetted led by 9 points at the interval but the Lady Heels managed to strike back and eked out a tough win at the end. Mesha Gordon and Benieca Thompson had 16 points apiece for Dominos. Catherine Ebanks delivered 18 points in the loss.
The Final game turned into a pretty even battle in the first half. The Storm Quick Cash built just a 4-point lead into halftime. But an 18:8 rally in the third stanza allowed the Storm Quick Cash to breathe freely in the final quarter as they coasted to the win at the end. Merta Day poured in 22 points and made 9 steals to lead the winners. Lavern Ebanks produced 15 points and 11 boards in the victory. Dionne Anglin had 15 points and 20 rebounds for the Dominos Lady Heels in the losing effort.
