National League Round 5: IRG Astros lose to Sol Blazers

Round in National League means a new league leader. The biggest surprise took place in where host Sol Blazers (3-2) beat league's leader IRG Astros (4-1) 78-71 on Thursday evening. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of IRG Astros. Sol Blazers made 21-of-26 free shots (80.8 percent) during the game. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Sol Blazers made 10 blocks. The best player for the winners was Canadian forward Justin Golob (190) who scored 26 points and 8 rebounds. The former international guard Samuel OGarro (195-1988, college: Eckerd) chipped in 18 points and 11 rebounds. Power forward DeAndre Simpson produced a double-double by scoring 16 points and 19 rebounds for the guests. Sol Blazers maintains fourth place with 3-2 record. IRG Astros at the other side dropped to the third position with one game lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Cayman FH. IRG Astros will play next round against strong Warriors trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Sol Blazers will try to continue on its current victory against tenth ranked Silver Bullets 2 at home.

Cayman FH smashed bottom-ranked Silver Bullets 2 at home 85-58. Canadian forward Nick Berardi orchestrated the victory by scoring 34 points (!!!). Curtis Wilson contributed with 15 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. Forward Daniel Stone answered with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 16 rebounds for Silver Bullets 2. Cayman FH have a solid series of four victories in a row. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Warriors. Silver Bullets 2 at the other side, also newcomer in the league, still closes the standings with six games lost. Silver Bullets 2 will play next round against strong Sol Blazers trying to get back on the winning streak. Cayman FH will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game.

Creole Team will meet higher ranked Silver Bullets (#5) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Silver Bullets 2 will play against Sol Blazers (#4) and hopes to get finally their first victory.

In the last game of round 5 MPS Tronix lost to undefeated Warriors in a road game 65-92.



Silver Bullets 2 - Creole Team 49-98

Bottom-ranked Silver Bullets 2 (0-6) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 98-49 loss to seventh ranked Creole Team (2-3) in on Thursday evening. They dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to Silver Bullets 2's 32. Creole Team forced 26 Silver Bullets 2 turnovers and outrebounded them 46-29 including a 29-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. Guard Joanki Montero-Espinal stepped up and scored 40 points (!!!) and 8 steals for the winners and forward Rakim Martin chipped in 19 points and 12 rebounds. Four Creole Team players scored in double figures. Forward Daniel Stone responded with 7 points and 9 rebounds and American forward Leonard Turner (196, college: CSUSB) scored 12 points and 5 rebounds. Creole Team moved-up to sixth place, which they share with MPS Tronix. Newly promoted Silver Bullets 2 still closes the standings with six games lost. Creole Team will meet higher ranked Silver Bullets (#5) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Silver Bullets 2 will play against Sol Blazers (#4) and hopes to get finally their first victory.

Warriors - MPS Tronix 92-65

There was no surprise when 5th ranked MPS Tronix (2-3) was crushed on the road by leader Warriors (4-0) 92-65 on Monday. Warriors looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. The former international forward Jerome Narcisse (193-1987, college: SWOSU) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 22 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners and the former international guard Juawon Ebanks (, college: Pensacola CC) chipped in 29 points and 7 assists. Forward Daniel Mowatt responded with 21 points and point guard Rick Henry scored 5 points, 13 rebounds and 6 assists. Warriors have a solid series of four victories in a row. Defending champion keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Cayman FH. Loser MPS Tronix dropped to the sixth place with three games lost. They share the position with Creole Team. Warriors will meet at home IRG Astros (#3) in the next round, which may be the game of the day. MPS Tronix will have a break next round.
