Virgin Islands U17 improved to 2-2 to tie with Costa Rica players at the Centrobasket U17 Championship for Women. Virgin Islands U17 remain Guatemala U17 winless after 61:56 victory.
Guatemala U17 looked better in the beginning of the game and hoped for the initial victory in Day 4. Guatemala enjoyed 14:11 lead at the end of the first frame and looked forward to keep the score later in the game. Virgin Islands U17 however replied with 19-12 in the second frame to take the control of the half. The teams went to the lockers for 30:26 score as Virgin Islands U17 was in front in the game. Guatemala U17 was far to follow the opponents in the game and also enjoyed the lead in the third period. After thirty minutes of the game the score was tied at 47:47. Virgin Islands U17 needed a great defense to prevail Guatemala U17 in the last period and in the game as well. With 14-9 in the last 10 minutes Shamyra Vanterpool (-92) (-92) led her team to the second victory.
Shamyra Vanterpool top-scored for the winners with 18 points, while Lanese Bough (-92) added 10 and De la Cruz Trass Kelssy had 9. Emily Quan (-95) ended up with 23 points in the losing effort and Fernandez Melissa notched 14.
Tomorrow Costa Rica U17 will play against Virgin Islands for the third spot. Guatemala will face Bahamas for the initial victory at the tournament.

Mexico U17 proved the ambitions for the top places at the Centrobasket U17 Championship for Women. The hosts of the tournament destroyed Bahamas U17 115:35 for 4-0 record. Bahamas U17 meanwhile dropped to 0-4 and will hope for the initial victory in the last day of the Preliminary Round.
Mexico and Bahamas started offensively and scored 37 points in the first period. Mexico grabbed 24-13 and did not allow the guests to reach 10 points in the next three quarters. The second period became a nightmare for Bahamas U17 that failed at 9-33. Both squads went to the big break when Mexico had 57:22 advantage. The intrigue was over at that time, however Mexico did not slow down. They produced 31-7 in the third quarter for 86:29. In the last frame the hosts added 27-6 to completely destroy the opponents.
Andrea Medina (-93) top-scored fr the winners with 19 points for 4-0 record. Adriana Navarro (-93) netted 16, while Claudia Posada (-93) scored 12. Taneka Sandiford (-95) collected 10 points and 11 caroms in defeat and Aren Pratt (-93) notched 8.
In the last game of the Preliminary Round Puerto Rico U17 will face Mexico for the top place in the group. Guatemala will face Bahamas for the initial victory at the tournament.

Costa Rica U17-Puerto Rico U17 71:76
The game between Costa Rica U17 and Puerto Rico U17 became the top one in Day 4 of the Preliminary Round. Centrobasket U17 Championship for Women registered 76:71 victory for Puerto Rico U17 that improved to 4-0 record. Costa Rica U17 meanwhile is 2-2 and was caught by Virgin Islands for the third spot.
That was really a battle in the court with both teams tasting the lead. In a back-to-back period the board showed 18:18 after the first 10 minutes. The scenario continued in the court in the second quarter as the teams stayed even in the court. Only after 17-16 in the frame Puerto Rico U17 grabbed 35:34 advantage. After the teams came back from the lockers Costa Rica U17 went in front but lost the period again. The winners produced 21-19 in the third frame for 3-point deficit before the last stanza. Puerto Rico U17 did not stay in defense and had 20-18 in the last period for the total success.
Lirielys Ramos (-94) paced all the winners with 14 points for the undefeated record. Ashley Torres (-95) nailed 13, while Rita Acevedo (168-G-92) posted 12. Michelle Mayorga (-93) collected 19 points and 13 rebounds in defeat, whilst Ana Matamoros (-95) had 15 points and 15 boards.
In the last game of the Preliminary Round Puerto Rico U17 will face Mexico for the top place in the group. Costa Rica U17 will play against Virgin Islands for the third spot.
