Liga Femenina Round 9: Sportiva Ita. defeats Univ.de Chile in the closest game of the week - Nov 20, 2016

The most exciting game of round 9 in the Liga Femenina took place in Valparaiso. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of second-best Univ.de Chile (7-2) to leader Sportiva Ita. (8-0) 67-65 in the game for the first place. It ended at the same time the seven-game winning streak of Univ.de Chile. They outrebounded Univ.de Chile 49-27 including a 35-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. Narlyn Mosquera stepped up with a double-double by scoring 26 points, 19 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and the former international guard Javiera Morales (178-92) chipped in 21 points and 9 rebounds. Sportiva Ita.'s coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. The best for the losing side was the former international guard Francisca Salvatierra (173-94) with 15 points and 6 rebounds. Undefeated Sportiva Ita. have an impressive series of eight victories in a row. They maintain first place with 8-0 record. Univ.de Chile at the other side keeps the second position with two games lost. Sportiva Ita. are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Univ.de Los Lagos (#8) in Castro in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Univ.de Chile's supporters also look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Santiago to the arena Boston College.
The game in Santiago was also worth to mention about. Third ranked New Crusaders (5-2) played at the court of 6th ranked Sergio Ceppi (2-7). New Crusaders defeated Sergio Ceppi 71-61. The former international center Tatiana Gomez (192-81) nailed a double-double by scoring 28 points and 16 rebounds for the winning side and Daniela Troncoso accounted for 11 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists. New Crusaders' coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Norma Padilla came up with a double-double by scoring 12 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists for Sergio Ceppi in the defeat. New Crusaders maintains third place with 5-2 record having four points less than leader Sportiva Ita. Sergio Ceppi lost their fifth game in a row. They keep the sixth position with seven games lost. They share it with Libertad SF. New Crusaders will play against Brisas (#5) in Santiago in the next round. Sergio Ceppi will play at home against Libertad SF and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

At the other side the best for losing team was Francisca Rojas who recorded 29 points and 9 rebounds (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line). Libertad SF moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Sergio Ceppi. Loser Brisas keep the fifth position with five games lost. Libertad SF will meet Sergio Ceppi (#6) in the next round. Brisas will play against New Crusaders and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

New Crusaders dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Sergio Ceppi's 26. New Crusaders had a 41-26 advantage in offensive rebounds. The former international center Tatiana Gomez (192-81) nailed a double-double by scoring 28 points and 16 rebounds for the winning side and the former international forward Daniela Troncoso (178-87) accounted for 11 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists. New Crusaders' coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Norma Padilla came up with a double-double by scoring 12 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists and Kasandra Espinoza added 12 points and 13 rebounds respectively for Sergio Ceppi in the defeat.
