Liga Femenina Round 17: Univ.de Chile beats Gimnastico in the most crucial game of the week - Aug 23, 2018

Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

Second ranked Univ.de Chile faced 4th placed Gimnastico. Guests from Santiago (13-2) defeated host Gimnastico (8-4) 76-72. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Gimnastico. Univ.de Chile forced 25 Gimnastico turnovers. Strangely Gimnastico outrebounded Univ.de Chile 41-25 including a 30-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was the former international guard Javiera Novion (170-87, college: Eckerd) who scored 33 points (!!!), 7 rebounds, 6 assists and 6 steals. The former international center Claudia Silva (193-89) chipped in 16 points and 6 steals. Univ.de Chile's coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Colombian power forward Narlyn Mosquera (-89) produced a double-double by scoring 16 points and 12 rebounds for the hosts. Univ.de Chile maintains second place with 13-2 record having just one point less than leader Alemana Paillaco. Gimnastico at the other side keeps the fourth position with four games lost. Univ.de Chile are looking forward to face Libertad 50 (#8) in San Fernando in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Gimnastico will play at home against Los Leones (#3) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Boston College will play against Lobas (#7) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Univ.Concepcion will play against Sergio Ceppi in Santiago and hopes to get back on the winning track.

Chastity Reed stepped up with a double-double by scoring 14 points, 15 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. Los Leones' coach felt very confident using 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Francisca Rodriguez responded with 8 points and 7 rebounds. The victory was the eighth consecutive win for Los Leones. They maintain third place with 11-4 record having just one point less than leader Alemana Paillaco. Brisas lost their fourteenth game in a row. They still close the standings with 14 games lost. Los Leones will meet Gimnastico (#4) in the next round. Brisas will play against New Crusaders (#6) and hope to get finally their first victory.

In the last game of round 17 Sergio Ceppi were defeated by New Crusaders in Valparaiso 71-64.

The game between closely ranked teams ended with 8th ranked Sergio Ceppi's (4-11) road loss to seventh ranked New Crusaders (5-6) 64-71 on Sunday. The former international forward Daniela Troncoso (178-87) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 31 points and 13 rebounds for the winners and guard Jovanka Ljubetic (178-0) chipped in 15 points and 7 rebounds. The former international forward Marisol Gamboa (178-85) responded with a double-double by scoring 16 points, 14 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals and Macarena Retamales (-1) scored 17 points and 9 rebounds. New Crusaders moved-up to sixth place. Loser Sergio Ceppi dropped to the ninth position with 11 games lost. New Crusaders will meet Libertad 50 (#8) in the next round. Sergio Ceppi will play against Univ.Concepcion and hope to secure a win.
