After 5 rounds played we can already see who rules in the Liga Nacional and who belongs to weaker ones. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

Round 5 most important game was a defeat of league's leader Universidad de Concepcion (6-2). They were edged by second ranked Temuco (6-1) 85-83 on Saturday night. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Temuco forced 19 Universidad de Concepcion turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. American forward TJ Robinson (203-89, college: Long Beach St.) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 27 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and his fellow American import swingman Jovonni Shuler (195-87, college: Savannah St.) chipped in 25 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field). International Carlos Lauler (190-96) responded with 12 points, 6 assists and 5 steals. Temuco have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader. Universidad de Concepcion at the other side dropped to the second place with two games lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Temuco. Universidad de Concepcion will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest and make it back to the top of the standings. Temuco will try to continue on its current victory against second ranked Universidad de Concepcion on the road.
Important game to mention about took place in Puente Alto. Fifth ranked Los Leones (2-5) saved a 1-point victory on the road edging 3rd placed Puente Alto (4-3) 68-67 on Saturday evening. Dominican power forward Manuel Guzman (204-82, college: Bemidji St.) nailed 19 points and 5 rebounds (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) for the winning side and Josimar Ayarza accounted for 12 points and 7 rebounds. Guard Felix Ibarra (187-93) came up with 16 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for Puente Alto in the defeat. Puente Alto's coach Pablo Ares tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Los Leones maintains fifth place with 2-5 record. Puente Alto at the other side dropped to the second position with three games lost. They share it with AB Ancud and Las Animas. Los Leones will play against higher ranked Espanol de Talca (#4) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Puente Alto will play against Universidad Catolica and hopes to get back on the winning track.
The game in Valdivia was also quite interesting. 4th placed Aleman (3-4) played at the court of fifth ranked Deportivo Valdivia (3-4). Deportivo Valdivia managed to secure a 5-point victory 83-78 on Saturday. The best player for the winners was Khapri Alston who had a double-double by scoring 18 points and 19 rebounds. Miguel Barriola produced 19 points and 7 assists for the guests. Aleman's coach let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Deportivo Valdivia moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Puerto Varas. Aleman lost their third game in a row. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

In the last game of round 5 CDU Catolica lost to CDE Esp. Talca on the opponent's court 75-81.



AB Ancud - Osorno 112-103

Second ranked AB Ancud (4-3) beat at home 6th ranked Osorno Basquetbol (2-6) by 9 points 112-103, which is the biggest margin this round. AB Ancud made 18-of-23 charity shots (78.3 percent) during the game. International guard Sebastian Suarez (193-91, college: Portland St.) orchestrated the victory by scoring 34 points (!!!). American guard Jesse Hardin (188-93, college: Walsh) contributed with 33 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds for the winners. American forward Darnell Dodson (201-89, college: S.Mississippi) answered with a double-double by scoring 32 points and 18 rebounds (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) and the other American import guard Louis Munks (190-90, college: Prairie View A&M, agency: Interperformances) added 32 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Osorno Basquetbol. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. AB Ancud maintains second place with 4-3 record behind leader Temuco, which they share with Puente Alto and Las Animas. Osorno Basquetbol at the other side keeps the sixth position with six games lost. AB Ancud's next round opponent will be league's second-placed Las Animas in Valdivia and it will be for sure the game of the week. Osorno Basquetbol will play on the road against the league's leader CD Castro (#1) and hope to win that game.

Rather expected game when 6th ranked Universidad Catolica (1-6) was defeated on the road by fourth ranked Espanol de Talca (2-4) 81-75. Espanol de Talca players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. They brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. American center Stanley Robinson (206-88, college: Connecticut) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 19 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. Guard Ricardo Cardenas (173-95) contributed with 14 points and 8 assists for the winners. Four Espanol de Talca players scored in double figures. American forward John Davis (196-94, college: Towson) answered with a double-double by scoring 29 points and 16 rebounds and American-Antiguan Joel McIntosh (201-90, college: La Roche) added 21 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Universidad Catolica. Espanol de Talca maintains fourth place with 2-4 record. Universidad Catolica lost their sixth game in a row. They keep the sixth position with six games lost. Espanol de Talca's next round opponent will be Los Leones (#5) in Quilpue. Universidad Catolica will play on the road against Puente Alto and hope to win that game.
